Question Re: Solara Performance & After-Market Parts (Gen 2)

I bought a loaded 07 SLE; but I couldn't get one with Navigation. The Dealer's Prep guy is looking into aftermarked products...

We have a few questions, mostly regarding the BlueTooth functionality.

He's found a nav unit which will replace my cd changer, play DVD's and for which he says there is a bluetooth adapter.
I'm interested in retaining function of the steering wheel phone buttons, 'on hook' 'off hook' and 'voice command'
1. How can I find out how they are wired, to determine if they can be used to control the aftermarket adapter.
2. Is the factory Blue Tooth built in to the radio, or is it a separate adapter, if so can it be used with an aftermarked nav/radio unit?
3. Where can I get the wiring diagrams for this car?

Thank you for any help you can give me,

Ed Norris

From what I've read, the Eclipse and Pioneer Nav HUs both work with the steering wheel controls and are B/T compat. If you're looking for voice recog. then I believe that's an additional kit. The OEM Nav HU (at least for 07) has built-in B/T.

I'm not sure where to find an audio wiring diagram at this point - I'll try to check around for you - but I know that there are direct plug-n-play models from both of those manufacturers for the Gen 2 Solara.

Jeff,

Just joined the site. I'd like to jump right in and thank you for the compiled list you have provided. Your legwork will save me (and likely many others) a great deal of time and frustration trying to track all this stuff down ourselves!

Now if I can just get used to navigating this site a little better....

Thanks! (and you're welcome!)

If you ever see anything that's not on the list, then please let me know and I'll add it so it's always on the top!

Have fun - you'll get the hang of this forum... it's not that hard.

Okay... so I just ordered the CP-e intake kit (tuneable).... A little pricey... so I hope it works! (Hard to argue with dyno numbers.... looks to have some very notable gains throughout the curve.... if not all-out pull, I would expect some better response and "growl" when whole-honk on the pedal!)

Any experience with these kits out there?

Oh, you lucky, lucky bastard! (in my best Monty Python character voice)

That CP-e is Off da HOOK!!

I would have sprung for one before I got my Injen if a) I could have afforded it, and b) They actually had one tuned for the '06 - which they do now, finally...

I'm hoping to upgrade from my Injen this Fall some time...

My biggest priority right now is getting the TRD springs and my 20" wheels on the beast!

Here's a shot of my Injen - not much for the Dyno but it makes a lot of noise! lol!

Let us know how the CP-e works for you! I've never, ever heard any complaints about it - the only REAL performance upgrade (other than TRD exhaust) for the Gen 2 V6!

Good luck!

Jeff

Actually Jeff, I HAVE seen another item not listed....

It is a "wire-in" device that "re-manipulates" the VVT-i crossover point(s) and allows you to advance or retard the variable valve feature (which I understand to be electronically manipulated in the Toyota system). I will dig around in my sport car mags and try to locate the name of the device, company, and maybe even scan/post an image. I think SCC or some similar rag had a one-pager review of the device. It was of Japanese market origin, just about to debut in the states, I think?

I'll go dig around....

BTW, what did you use to paint your calipers? (your ride looks very clean... very nice!)

Cool - thanks for getting more info in here... anything we can do to get more current info for the Gen 2 especially - most other sites have TONS of info on the Gen 1, but of course they've been around longer and got better after-market support than we have so far.

Thanks for the props on my ride.

I used Caliper Paint from Auto Zone - red. I just masked off the calipers really well and shot them on the car. Several dry coats and one good wet coat and it's held up really well so far!

I've looked at the big brake kits and it's just not worth the $$ IMO - that's just insane!!

Anyway - new info is always welcome - thanks!

Jeff

Your engine bay looks great! I'll throw the front brace and rear stabilizer on down the road... (a short road, I hope!) I may do the TRD springs first. I don't like the flex/float/front push when I get to pushing the thing in spirited maneuvers. Do you ever notice the tail wanting to come around when you get a little TOO lively?

I am also interested in getting under it to study the plumbing routes, etc... I suspect a high-flow cat won't disturb the flow/balance in the Toyota plumbing but might breathe just a tad better with the new intake and TRD tail. It's probably worth a try and so long as I keep the diameter right, can't hurt.

BTW, I was born on the 4th. Something about us Taurus'..... we are forever forever tinkerin' with stuff, huh?

Yeah, big brakes get really pricey.... I wonder if you can get a basic "powerslot" rotor and some good pads with better bite and less fade. I put the powerslots and "hawk"? pads on my '94 truck.... had to replace the whole calipers with remans as well, and that setup has worked WONDERS on the truck... (Didn't want to stop very well with the 32's I slapped on it! And everything just plain corrodes here in Ohio after 10 years of hard use!)

Oh yeah! I thought I saw that JET had an ECU EPROM reprogramming upgrade for the gen 2's. I sent my '94 trucks' out to them and it did make a difference, especially on response.... (of course, the '94 pre-Tacoma V6 is a real DOG in the first place.... so I threw everything I could at it!)

Haven't seen anything from Jet for the Camry or Solara yet..

http://www.jetchip.com/ecuchart.asp

...doesn't mean they're not working on one tho'

They do however, have this unit that might work with VVT-i:

http://www.jetchip.com/products.asp?pid=18786

Keep us posted what you might find out there!

Thanks!

There, now it's "confirmed" to exist out there somewhere... I suppose. I wonder if it can coexist with the CP-e intake unit...

Anyone know anything about this unit? Perhaps we need exposure on it as a generic VVT-i controller thread?
