My 07 Solara SLE Convertible will be in any day now. I told my salesman that I wanted to add Sirius to it, once they get it. He told me that the Sirius kit isn't available yet for the 07 Solara. Has anyone else run into this? I am getting the SLE with the NAV/bluetooth phone.
I've run into a similar problem with my 07 Camry SE without navigation. After talking with my dealer and Toyota Corp., I have learned that there is apparently some issue with the Fit Kit that goes with the Receiver/Antenna kit. Release of an updated product is coming in December or January. I spoke with a Toyota parts wholesaler, who has been selling the kits and installing them as recently as yesterday. They have not had any complaints, but Toyota is telling me that there have been reception problems with the old kits and advised me to wait for the new parts at the end of the year.
I've called other Toyota dealers and they tell me that the fit kit is backordered. But, when I've called others, they tell me that they have both receiver and fit kits available. So, it's been tough to get a straight answer.
For the record, another member of this forum has had no difficulties with the old kits and was told by a Toyota parts dealer that the new kits coming in December are for cars with navigation systems only and that the non-navigation kits they stock and install are not part of the problem. Although this contradicts what Toyota and my dealer told me, if you have a JBL radio in your Solara without the navigation system and want to roll the dice, you can get what you want at toyotapartsdelivered.com.
I'm going to wait for the new part in December and at that point I'll know definitively whether Toyota was giving me good or bad information. Either it will work with my Camry as promised or I'll learn that I didn't have to wait afterall because the new kit is only to remedy problems with navigations systems.
If anyone can shed more light on this, I would certainly be appreciative.
I re-read your post and see that you are getting the JBL radio with Navigation, so the delay is certainly relevant in your case. The most recent date I received for availability was 1/5/07.
Would be interested in any feedback on the non-navigation parts to determine if this is just a navigation issue or if what Toyota is telling me is in fact correct.
I was originally told I couldnt' even get Sirius for my '06 SLE Convertible (JBL non-nav) - but I could get the XM kit.
They couldn't tell me why at the time, but I have found out that it is the antenna issue, so hopefully when that's resolved, we can also get that as well as the '07 folks!
It also may have been related to Toyota's contractual agreements with XM. Some auto manufacturers, like Honda, have exclusive deals with XM because they locked them in before Sirius became popular. 2007 is the first year that Sirius is a dealer option for Toyota cars. My manual only mentions the XM option, but if you view Toyota's web page or check out the dealer information on the car, Sirius is now an option.
What's the antenna issue? Back in July, I saw an 06 SLE convertable at the dealership that had Sirius installed. They had the antenna mounted on the trunk lid, drivers side. Told them it looked ugly.

THAT IS the issue!!
They don't have a decent antenna for Sirius yet - so anything they stick on the trunk is going to be totally Fugly!!
I stand corrected. Sirius became a post-production option for some 06 models. See excerpt below from Technology Futurist, December 9, 2004:
"The satellite radio market got a boost this week, as Toyota (the fourth largest automaker in the U.S. behind GM, Ford and Chrysler) announced this past Tuesday that it has selected XM Satellite Radio for factory-installations starting from 2006. XM (Nasdaq:XMSR) already had an existing relationship with Toyota, in which the Japanese car manufacturer was offering XM as a dealer-installed option..."
Just for the record. I have a 06 SLE convertible with the Sirius system. I bought it from the dealer can't remember what the price was though. It took around an hour to install. Not a big deal at all just simply pull a few panels run the wire and the antenna lead. The radio has an empty plug on the back of it you simply plug in the wire and your set. Now for the antenna it is located on the windshield just under the rear view mirror. The box for the unit is under the passenger seat. I had to take the passenger seat out to install it.
Now I do have to say that reception can at times be a problem. If there is alot of trees around or over passes you will loose reception. I live in the Richmond VA area. I did try a different antenna on the trunk lid of the car and found no difference in the reception for my car.
Hope this helps a little. Don't pay for somebody to install it do it yourself its pretty easy job.
Just spoke to the dealership and they said they have sirius available for the Nav unit.
Part numbers are:
Tuner: PTS3100052
Fit Kit: PTS3133051
Anyone have an opinion on if these are correct? I told him I had the E7009 unit - said it didn't matter as long as I have the sat button on the head unit.
