EGR valve............

This isn't a question. More of a FYI. The engine lite, and then in addtion, the traction control lite came on on my 2K Solara. I asked and searched and was told it was the ERG valve that needed replacing (300.00+ total). Finally I got info that I would need to replace the EGR position sensor (actually the top part of the EGR valve. (unplug the wiring conn and remove 2 small retaining nuts). I purchased it for $40.00 and it took about 10 min for me to replace it. Problem solved. I was also informed that sometimes other lites will come on when this prob exists (always including the engine lite). Hope this helps someone.

Could you tell me where in the engine compartment the EGR valve is located? I am having the same problem with my 99 Solara.

DO you have a 4cyl or V-6?
Here are the diagrams for both.
The 4 cylinder does not have a POSITION SENSOR only the V6.
