Camry-SolaraGeneral discussion forum for the Toyota Camry-Solara.
This is a discussion thread titled "Convertible Top", within the Camry-Solara forum, part of the Cars & Vans Forums category.
I'm on my third Solara convertible, and on every one of them, the water repellant they used for the top was great for the first year. After a year, it is non existant. None of the dealers can tell me what they use. I hope someone on this forum be of some help.
I won't have my Solara for a day or two, but I've been using 303 High Tech Fabric Guard on my New Beetle Convertible for the last two years. I use their Convertible Top Cleaner too. Both worked well for me.
Do a Google Search for a product called Ragg Topp - it's the best there is - cleaner and protectant. Used on most high-end cars like Porsches and Bimmers.
I recently purchased an 06 Solora SLE convertible. Love the car. My wife accidently opened the top inside of a parking garage and it now has a 4 inch tear in the top, right above the frame were it attaches above the windshield. The tear does not seperate until the top it is open and folded down.
A trim shop that I called informed me that it could only be repaired not replaced.
According to the owners manual for my 06 Solara you should not run your car thru an automatic car wash. Reason, the high pressure & super strong detergent will help to wash away the protective coating put in the top at the factory. If you feel you want to was it use only a mild detergent with lots of suds & a soft sponge. Same for a stain, wipe it away with a soft sponge & let the suds do the job. About the battery, I do not know what kind of battery other model toyota use or if it is sealed or not? But the one in my 06 Solara has removable tops for adding water. It is not a sealed battery. So be sure to check the water level now & then. If it should need water use only distilled water as this will prolong the life of the batter. In 15000 miles of driving my batter just now needs some water. Coal Miner in Florida

Is that correct?
Thanks,

Not true - I've seen several people get new tops through the dealers - and they even have rain "gutter" over the door openings (nice feature)!
