1998 Camry stalls often - Toyota Tundra Forums : Tundra Solutions Forum

I am new to this site and was wondering if others have ran into similar problems. I have a 1998 Toyota Camry that stalls often. Especially when slowing down at stop signs. From what I have read at other sites it could be the EGR valve. Could someone please give me an idea where this valve is located? I am pretty handy and feel I could fix this if I knew what I was looking for. The car is for my son going to college and would like to try to fix it before he leaves. Any help is greatly appreciated.

This is a 4 cylinder 5sfe.

possible egr but I would be will to bet is is the idle air control sticking probaly needs cleaned

My Camry has basically the same problem, tho not stalling out yet. Toyo dealer cleaned induction and injection systems, problem seems more frequent now. This was intermittent two to three times a year for two years, now pretty much daily in warm weather.

Unhooked/plugged vacuum hose to EGR two days ago. Problem went away.

Ohm meter reading on EGR position sensor is in spec when cold.

Any ideas most appreciated.

My 94 camry used to stalls at start up in warm and hot weather. Cleaned IAC valve and problem is gone. Refer to Camry V6 Stall/Rough Idle after starting.

OK gang, for streamling purposes I've replied to this thread to bring it close to the other one.

Few questions here, if any of you on this thread are still viewing or any others who can help:

1) FATRATS7 asked where the EGR valve is, but didn't get a reply. Anyone?
2) TURNING WRENCHES mentions the idle air control stick. That part is one of the possibilities that's been suggested to me. How, as turning mentioned, do you clean it?
3) WESTINDY mentioned something about unhooking vaccum hose to the EGR valve and then the problem went away. But I noticed you contined to ask for help. Did the problem return? And for those who know where this vaccum hose is, could you please share.
4)tr19688 mentions cleaning the IAC valve as a solution. Could you or someone here please tell me where that can be found.
