Default Coolant

Which is the better antifreeze for a 2006 toyota camry, The toyota Long life coolant 100k (Red Stuff) or the Prestone 150k coolant? Can they be mixed without causing any problems? Thanks

People have said Royal Purple is good. But I live in the same area as you and I just use the Toyota brand. Should be fine for our weather (as weird as it may be here).
I'm not too sure about interbrand mixing. There may be different additives in different brands that don't mix well. Not like they'll explode on you, but they may stay in suspension.

Just curious why yu need to change or add this to a 2006 Camry. It is too new. Or did you open the system and lose some already?

In any event, Yu need the "Super Long Life PINK", not the Long Life Red.

Part Number: 00272-SLLC2

I go to my local dealer. It's premixed. 50/50 already to use. I wish it wasn't premixed. Dollar for dollar it is expensive in premixed solution. But, this is the only way it comes now.

I'm not aware of a web site that ships this online. Might not be $practical$ considering the weight of shipping. Will probably be a ground Ship only item, due to the product that it is.

Also DO NOT mix this stuff with another brand or formula despite claimed compatibility. Or else!!! There are so many antifreeze formulas out there.

I only use the specified Toyota Antifreeze in all my Toys. I rarely go through radiators etc. I got 18 years out of my '88 Corolla's original Radiator. It outlived the car when I let it go for salvage.

Also ,if yu choose to use a concentrate antifreeze of any brand, ONLY USE Distilled Water for the mix, NOT tap water or similar. This is very important. And Many shop mechanics and even Dealers don't adhere to this rule!

BTW, It's way cheaper to get Distilled Water from a pharmacy, drug store , or supermarket, than get it at an Auto Parts store.

Good luck

I've always used distilled water in my anti-freeze too.

You may have answered the question of why it comes pre-mixed.
Most people just use tap water when they mix anti-freeze 50/50 with water.
As corrosive as some tap water is in certain parts of the country, using it would certainly have a bearing on it's performance over 100,000 miles I would guess.

Where I grew up in NW Indiana, the water in my hometown is so corrosive, my parents had to replace the faucets in the house every so often, because the city water ate them up.
Yet I saw people use this same water in their anti-freeze and not give any thought to what it's doing to their engine.

I'm not a qualified tech (although I know there's a few lurkers out there) but I seem to recall something about the Toy-stuff including some specialized lubricants for the water pump.

When I used to live in the Chicago area I used to change my own coolant once a year...even if it did not need it. I kinda figured it was cheap insurance to keep a cooling system healthy in a climate where the air temp can range from 110 (plus 100% humidity) to -110 (plus wind chill that would drop the temp even further). Now that I'm a little older and have better informed friends, I'll still likely exceed the manufacturer's recommendations but not by what I used to do.

I know it's off-topic but that's the same basic reason I use Mobil-1 in my oil pan. The air temp in SoCal for the past week has been 105+ and stilling in traffic with these kinds of conditions, well not I'm not so worried anymore.

You know, the same basic thread can be said about the new Toy-brand tranny fluid. Unless there's an issue, it's supposed to last for the life of the car. Me? Well as I have a new tranny (thank you Toyota!) I'l likely change it once on it's one year b-day to make sure there's no issues.
