Default 2006 Camry-base model....keyless entry?

Just bought a used 2006 Camry, base model. Not sure if it includes keyless entry, but from what I have been able to determine, it's not available except on the LE model and up, correct?

If that's the case, any idea what the dealer will charge to add keyless entry?

Am I better off getting an aftermarket keyless entry system?

Thanks!

Ed

I am pretty sure you are right about the LE's having keyless and the base ones not. My LE didn't come with the remotes either so I bought some off of ebay and programmed them myself. I know the site keylessride.com lets you put in your VIN number to see if it came with keyless. Otherwise, I would check places like ebay for the factory system or go with aftermarket because the dealership is gonna scam you. They were trying to sell me 1 keyless remote for $150! I bought two off of ebay for $15 shipped.

Hello,

I too bought a 2006 Camry Base model and it doesnt have the Keyless remote. Can someone please let me know if the remote sold from ebay is compatable with the Camry Base model?

Thanks

No, you can have 100 remotes and you can't have keyless entry on a stripper Camry.

You don't have the right ECU..............

Thanks Jerald.

By any chance do you know how much will the dealer charge to add keyless entry?

Like NJERALD said you need a different ECU(If you want the TOYOTA system) and possibly wiring changes.
IF the dealer is going to install it(and that is a very very big "IF") you will pay thru the nose.
The dealer probably will offer to install an aftermarket system, and you will still pay thru the nose.
Almost any car stereo place(or stores like Best-Buy) will install a keyless system for less.(shop around).
My guess is that you could get an alarm system that includes keyless entry for less than what the dealer wants.

You can't add factory keyless you will need to go aftermarket. Look for a place thats been around for years. they will probally have better quality systems. A cheep system won't always last as long.
