07 Camry LE 4 CYL Transmission Downshifting Problems
I recently bought a 2007 Camry LE 2.4 liter, 4 CYL with auto transmission. It was a certified used car with 20K miles on it but having just gotten rid of a 92 Camry with 321K miles on it, I thought I'd stick with a good thing.
Problem is when I tap the brakes in drive going 40-50 mph, it downshifts into the engine braking mode causing the tach to jump to 3000 revs. Sometimes it's hard to get it back into D.
I've read posts about problems with the V6 transmission and the Toyota recall but haven't seen much about the 4 CYL.
Before taking it back to the dealer and getting the run-around, I thought I'd see if anyone else had same problems or could shed some light on it.

appreciate the help.
My car doesn't do that in 17 months and 18,000 miles.
If you have slowed down to 50 mph from a faster speed, you should be in 5th gear @ 1,600 RPM. If you are accelerating and haven't got into 5th gear yet, you are in 4th gear @ 2,300 RPM.
If when braking at 50 mph (either in 4th or 5th) and it downshifts into 3rd gear, you will be @3,300 rpm. It shouldn't do that.
Take it into the dealer and say you have a driveabilty problem and you want this TSB done on your car.
Re: 07 Camry LE 4 CYL Transmission Downshifting Problems
My car does the same thing you are describing. I am getting ready to take it in for the 5,000 mile service. I notice on a few corners around my home. I will be driving 50-60mph and let off to coast into the corner, if I as much as touch my brake pedal the car will downshift quickly slowing the car and making it a little unstable. This is very annoying and I would love to find a fix for it. Mine also has a problem when driving though town between 30-40 mph. The car surges almost feels like the trans can't decide what gear it wants to be in. If anyone has know the fix for these problems please let us know.
