Were some Camry's built in Japan? If so, how can you tell?
If your VIN starts with a J it was built in Japan. It's not usual for dealers in the west coast region to receive Camrys from Japan.

If a combo of all these whizz bangs met their claims you'd have to syphon gas out of your tank every second day and sell the excess horsepower on the third????
From the front you can see a 3" square plate in the bumper (1' from the license plate) covering a ship tie down point.
Also there are oval shaped plastic plugs beneath the car that are left in the glove compartment that have to be installed once the vehicle reaches port.

Thanks for the info guys. I've never owned a Toyota before. I've recently got rid of my 2006 Civic SI and got a used Japan built 2007 Camry XLE V6 with 18,000 miles on it.
I do a lot of long distance driving and I finally got tired of involved and intense driving experience of my SI. It was a fun car to drive around in though.
Yeah... I do too. Not sure what year they started making them in the USA, but I think it was either beginning with the 1997 models, or the 2002 models. I am thinking that the 96' older models were all built in Japan.
