Default 4 cylinder Camry acceleation

I purchased a 2007 Camry LE 4 cylinder in Sep. 2006.
I have been experiencing a problems with what I believe the transmission.

When I start to accelerate from a stop I have 1-2 seconds that the car does not respond. When I depress the accelerator petal a little further I suddenly feel a jolt and the car takes of at a fast speed.
I never really sought about this to much until I recently rented a 2007 Camry LE 4 cylinder with nearly the same mileage as mine in LA and noticed the different driving characteristics of this car.
I have heard about a similar problem related to the 6 cylinder Camry’s. Is there anyone out there that had the same problem and had it fixed? I want to find out before I take it to the dealer.
