CamryGeneral discussion forum for the Toyota Camry.
This is a discussion thread titled "2007 Camry 6 Speed Automatic Problem", within the Camry forum, part of the Cars & Vans Forums category.
I own a 2007 Camry SE with the V-6 engine and 6 speed automatic transmission. I had the classic engine over revving on the shift from 3rd to 4th gear when cold. Toyota replaced the transmission. It seemed to be a better for a while but now is starting to do the same thing, again. Any information on Toyota having a better cure?
I've also had my tranny replaced and the ECU re-flashed but I'm not seeing the problem that you mentioned. I have also been in close contact with some Toyota "insiders" and for some time now they have been suggesting that I keep an eye on it yet they would not give me any more information than this.
My suggestion would be to contact the Customer Service line in Torrance, CA and open up a case with them. I suggest that you take a civil tone but be firm. This is not what the car is supposed to do and Toyota needs to take responsibility for this issue.
They'll likely want you to return the care to the dealer and they'll give you a free rental while they review the problem.
Mention to Toyota the magic words "Binding Arbitration" and "Lemon Law" as well to make your point.
OK, so some other background questions for you;
- When was your car made?
- JP or USA manufacture?
- How many miles on car before 1st tranny was replaced?
- How many miles since you've had new tranny?
- Do you see any warning indicators on your dash? I ask because I the system we have is "sealed" meaning that we can't just add fluid when we feel like it. The dealer (or somebody who knows what they are doing) can check the fluid level only after a long process that involves getting the unit to a certain temperature range and then doing some things...it's long and somewhat complicated.
- Do you see any fluid leaks under the car?
The replacement kit should have also given you a new torque converter so I'm guessing that's NOT the issue here.
Keep in touch...I'm curious about this one.
Thank you

2007 Camry LE V6
Looks like the Camry 6 speed auto is having some problems. The Tundra's new 6 speed seems to be giving some folks a problem also. I have one in my 07 Tundra and so far have seen no problem (knock on wood).
My 03 Camry only has about 100,300 miles on it, so I probably won't be getting a new one until the '09s are out. Hopefully by then, all the bugs will be worked out.

Camry bought in July 06 and no issues. Yes its a V6.
The problem seems to be in the new 6 speed auto ( with 6cyl). I'm sure it is NOT that they are ALL bad, but that there are a few people having issues with them. The new Tundra is having the same bad rep because some are having issues. I have around 8500 miles on my Tundra and it's been PERFECT so far (knock on wood). I am assuming that it is the same case with the Camry.
