Default New Camry 2009

Intend to change my 1998 Camry soon.Does anyone know why the 2009 was out so early? Was this to hide problems that may have been encountered with the 2008? The only noticeable difference is the stability control which is now standard on all models except entry level LE.
Final question, I understood there were transmission/acceleration problems with the 2007. Have these been resolved for sure, or shall I expect such problems with the 2008 or 2009?.Thanks.

The 09 has the same engine and transmission as the original 07...only has newer code / logic (which should be the same as the mods for the 07/08 versions).

The early '07 Camry's had quite a few problems because the car was sold before the end of it's development period. The late '07 Camrys were pretty good (except the V6's still had transmission shift programming problems). The '08's are refined and perfected as are the '09's.

Toyota's new President has declared quality will no longer take a back seat to sales volume so if a new model introduction requires 6 extra months to work the bugs out, then the introduction date will be set back even though it would eat into the company's sales volume goals.

So we shall see if the all new redesigned 2009 Corolla turns out to be troublefree even in it's first year.

I own a 08 and it is nothing short of fantastic in every way shape or form. Out of 6 cars it is one of the families favorites.

For some reason, Toyota rolls out their next model year Camry, Corolla, Matrix during Feb/March of the current model year. It's a marketing thing for the most part at least that's what the dealer tells me.
