CamryGeneral discussion forum for the Toyota Camry.
This is a discussion thread titled "09 Camry oil change", within the Camry forum, part of the Cars & Vans Forums category.
Has anyone done an oil change on the 09 Camry. I just purchased my 09 on 5/19/09 the V6 LE. I'm freeky when it comes to oil changes, the first at 500 milers , then starting at 5K , every 5K AMS Oil only. I keep my cars for 250k to 300k mark, and so far very little motor repairs, yea I do tune-ups and all that stuff also. From the looks of the filter it looks as if it's the same as the 07 Tundra I drive. Any advise I'd be thankfull.

The '09s are the same as the '08s which are the same as the '07s, so about 1,000,000 people have had their oil changed at least once.
If you use the Search function there are a number of previous threads dealing with the I4 and V6 oil changes.

I am similiar to your regimen. I always dump my Factory fill oil at 500miles. Have done this for over 20 years. Then I start using M1 between 3k-5k miles . I also can easily get 200K+miles as the original owner with no abnormal repairs. Just Factory spec maintenance. No Dealer recomended BS PM's. I decide what PM's should be added to the Factory recomendations depending on the model.
The first 500 miles engine breakin creates the most contaminated oil that my vehicle will ever see. I don't believe in keeping the Factory fill Oil forthe first 5K. like the book says. That's rediculous. Any UOA oil test will back this up.
Some have argued that the Factory fill oil is "Special". How special can it be? At 500 Miles it is time to dump it. Period. Ask any Competition Race Engine builder.
If yu understand engine building and Break-In, yu would readily understand this concept.
In the past some manufacturers have used non-detergent oil for engine break-in purposes. These oils were dumped at 500 miles. Some still had not sealed the rings good enough and needed non-detergent oil for another 1000 miles.
... We had the oil changed at 800 miles on our ’08 I-4 Camry but it was 7 months oldat the time. I do believe in early oil changing on new engines.
I have heard the factory oil filters are different than the replacements.
Have a good one while you can still laugh about it.. Don S..
Laws such as the use of corn ethanol are driving up the cost of living (have you been to the grocery store lately) without driving up wages. This equates to a lower standard of living thanks to Agro-lobbyists and corrupt and/or ill-informed lawmakers.
