Just got my new transmission at 12,000 miles. Glad it was under warranty. The bill woukd have been just under $5000. Have not driven it enough to tell if it's a great improvement yet. I will say that my dealer was great to work with. I took the car in a couple months ago w/ the hesitation/over reving between 2-3 and 3-4 gears. They re-flashed the tranny and said to try that 1st. It was definitely different but maybe a little worse. I took it back and they ordered a new (read that re-manufactured) transmission. They gave me a new loaner(had a choice between an 09 camry or an 08 xb, I took the xb) and had my car for 6 days. Hopefully this tranny will be fine. I will update after I get a few miles on it. On a good note I changed the oil for the 1st time today (had the dealer do the first 3) and thanks to this forum, it was a breeze. I was a little intimidated to do it after some of the stuff I read, but it really went well and was pretty simple. I always feel better when I do my own maintenance cause I know for sure it was done, and I know it was done right. Never know for sure when you pay to have it done if they really changed the filter or not. This way I know.
Sorry. Been spending too much time over on the Tundra forum lately. On my 2nd new gen. Tundra and been driving it a lot. Haven't been in the Camry a lot but have put approx. 300 miles on it since the new tranny. so far it is a little questionable, I wasn't paying real close attention one time during a shift (between 2nd-3rd) and I swear it seemed to slip a little. My wife even said "did you feel that?" I could not get it to do it again. I am a little concerned that I might have issues w/ this transmission. I hope its o.k. but I still have almost 3 years warranty. I will try and update again in a month or so. hopefully I can get another 500 miles or so on it by then. Sorry for delaying my update so long.
Well bad news. This 2nd transmission sucks . Making an appointment w/the dealer to check it out. Do they make a good trans for this car? Had poblems for the first 12k w/the first trans. and this new one only has 500 miles on it. Hope they can make it right. I really love the car but----come on Toyota
Sorry to hear that...my 07 (V6) had the trans replaced at 12K and I now have almost 50K on it and no problems at all.
OK...I'm going to suggest some things for you to consider...
1) I hope that you have opened a case with corporate Toyota. If not, CALL THEM ASAP and have them open a case and ask that it be escalated to the regional manager ASAP.
2) Press Toyota NOW for a full replacement of the car under whatever Lemon law you can use. If they do...track the VIN of any new car and this time get one that was made in Japan and not the USA (oh how it hurts to write that)
3) Lacking a full replacement, Toyota offered me a 100K / 7 year extended warranty (I think they call it the "Platinum" Warranty) FREE OF CHARGE. This offer still did not interfere with any of my consumer rights for defective products.
Keep this in mind...VERY early in the US production line...I'm talking back in mid-2006...they had some terrible problems with the transmission and Toyota, very silently, bought back all those cars. The problem was corrected and the USA production line went back into full swing. I do not profess to know what the problem is but it's obvious to almost anybody that there is SOME kind of problem.
When you talk to Toyota, make sure that they document this.
Keep us (me) posted as I'm very interested in hearing more about this.

Not sure, but I think w/ the lemon law, the dealer gets 3 chances to fix a problem. Since i will only be on my 2nd replacement tranny ,( if they do replace it) They will still have one more chance. My 07 build date is 04/06, so it is pretty early. I thought the rplacement would be better. I will post again when i find out what their plan is
While I do not mean to disrespect you...don't forget to count the efforts to reflash the transmission EPROM and any other diagnostic efforts that the dealer has performed.
In any case, the Lemon Law may not apply YET...but that's the very message that you need to deliver...how is Toyota going to PREVENT that from happening?
Let us (me) know.

Good point on the re-flash! I didn't count that. So they have had 2 attempts. If they replace the tranny again and it's not right, then the lemon law should apply in my opinion. No dis-respect taken
The 2007 And Up Transmission Have Had Problems With The Soft Ware This Is Why They Are Sometimes Be Flashed. Also They Say You Can Go 100,000 Miles Before You Need To Change The Transmission Fluid Do It At 50,000 Just To Be Safe.
Well, I am a great procrastinator. I had an appointment to have the trans checked and had to cancel. I haven't re-scheduled yet. The trans seems to be getting better somehow, at least I haven't noticed it as much. I still know it's not quite right but I want to make sure I can duplicate the problem when I take it in. I am not too concerned as I still have 30 months of warranty left.
