Hey to all again, so after seeing that there was no answer to my question (which really twicked my curiosity) surely somebidy would know.....Duh...there is NO rear differential on an 04 Camry.....Yep went down to the Toyota dealer and "tech" showed me with a smile the whole time.....

So I'm good now....just drain and fill or do a flush at the dealer....CSM-H

If The Dealer Has A Full Flush System For The Transmission Have Them Do It And Get Out The Old Transmission Oil And Put In Fresh Trans Oil The Trans Will Last Longer. Be Careful Of These Fast Lube Places Who Do Transflushes They Use Standard Dexron 3or 4 Fluid. The Camry Uses Type 4 From Toyota. I Use Mobil One In My 2006 Camry This The Last Year That You Can Change Your Own Oil Due To The 2007 And Later Use A Special Fluid And They Have To Drained And Fill system and A Hand Held Computer Is Needed To Check The Trans Oil Temp To Do It Correctly. They Also Say You Can Go 100,000 Miles On The New Transmission 2007 -2009 And Later Before You Have To Change It. A Good Rule Of Thumb Change The Transmission Oil At 50,000 Miles To Be Safe And make the trans last longer

Hey thanks, Interesting you mention the Type for my Toyota "tech" told me told me it uses Dextron III, and this was at the dealer.....I have an 04 SE 3.3, it will be about another 10K miles before I do it so I'll know for sure one way or the other. Yes I have heard about and have suffered in the past from a speedy Jiffy Lube service....won't do that again....CSM-H

I don't like the sounds of what the tech told you the dealer only use type 4 toyota trans fluid and a new trans fluid for the 2007 and later camry called ws or world standard. Personlly I use mobil one synthetic in my trans 2006 camry and no problems. I also have a restored 1991 lexus ls400 with close to 300k miles on it all the fluids are synthetic and no problems. If you are under warranty just use type 4 toyota trans fluis to keep peace in the toyota family .
make sure you always change your trans fluid and power steering at about 20,000 miles unless you do long haul mileage then go to 30,000 miles happy motoring.

On Your Tundra You Do Have A Rear End And It Takes Oil Check With The Dealer What Kind Of Oil Some Use A Special Oil For Limited Slip Rear Ends. Change Your Rear End Oil At About 40,000 Miles To Keep It In Good Shape.

bill, hey thanks...I had heard and read in other places I could use the Dextron and or Synthetic....There is only a screeen in a 2004, no filter correct? ANd as I understand it the only way to clean that well is to take it out of the tranny and clean it....thanks, again, CSM-H

Bill, I'm good with the Tundra, second one.....Although I may go back to an Access Cab 2wd sometime in the future as the 4 Door DC, 4WD is too much truck....thanks again, CSM-H

My 2003 Camry manual says the transmission fluid does not need changing under normal driving conditions. Label on the dipstick says the same thing. But I take it from this thread that might not be the case. I have 137,000 miles on my car. Should I change it? Thanks
