Default Camry/Toyota Quality Slipping

On my 2004 Camy LE the rear right speaker cover has almost comepletely disintegrated due to sun exposure, while the left speaker cover is beginning to crack. I doubt that this is just an isolated problem because on my cousin's '05 Camry LE the rear speaker covers are disintegrating also. Has anyone else had this problem?

Also, about a month ago the there was universal shaft replaced in the steering column that was manufactrued by GM, that caused too much play/clunking in the steering column.

I've never had these type of problems on my old Made in Japan '89 Camry that I kept for almost 15 years. If you want the old Toyota quality and then some, it seems you will have to look to Lexus, excluding the RX.

Evidently not everyone knows about the slip in quality becasue the Camry is still the best selling car in America, and thousands of people buy them every day. I think it is a good idea, if Toyota reads these forums, to let them know that a fair amount of people know that their products are not what they used to be and that hopefully they will heed the message.

And then there is even the other side of it...
89' Camry sold in 93, no rust.
A snapshot of our driveway a year or two ago:
93 Camry, 305k+ miles minimal rust (Japan)
96 Camry, 195k miles, several rust spots
99 Camry, 97k miles, trying to rust through at wheel well, trunk

Sure the DPW is probably pumping out more and more salt on the roads in winter, but a regular wash takes care of that.

Still can't knock Toyota on rust though, every Ford/Chevy in this family has rusted much earlier and much faster.
