Red face FIX or FORGET IT (poll)

So do I fix it or just forget about it? I plan on selling my '99 Camry XLE 240,000 miles(I'm the 2nd owner), and it is an overall fair/average condition. Engine and tranny runs great, tires are VG but the premium rims look a bit less than in premium shape. It has newer brakes and roters, the body has a qtr panel dent size of softball but overall good everywhere else. The interior has some driver seat wear/cracks on the leather but the rest is fairly good and that darn center counsole compartments hinge snapped off.... Now the not so good , the suspension is horrible! Probably needs shocks or struts all around (espesially the rear) but it's very drivable as it stands. I havn't gotten an estimate yet but I'm thinking the cheapest I could get all replaced would be $800 min. but I'm not sure.

KBB and edmunds pretty much has the value of this car @ around 1700-2400 in this condition. I'm not sure how acurate this really is. IMO- If I do fix it, I think this would be a VG car to buy, but then again I don't want to loose anything I put in to it.

So folks, help me out. Do I get the suspension fixed before I list it or put it on the market as it already is(besides cleaning things up/small maintenace stuff). Thanks for your vote!

For that price range, just sell it as-is.

Anyone dense enough to not see the value of asking people who MAY have been in the same situation is.............

This forum is home to many different folks with a variety of Toyota vehicles, old and new. You honestly don't see where an "unknown individual' might be able to chime in on this thread and say, "Hey, I invested some money in my $1,000 car and didn't get any more money than I expected," or "Throwing $600 at it to attract a higher class of buyer really worked out in my favor"?

I can see that you enjoy posting snide remarks at your fellow members, but at least don't aim them at someone that is asking a legitimate question.

I would get an estimate from a local mechanic shop. I'm sure it will be around maybe $500 than if you were to take it to Toyota. If the price is right then get the work done. Are you trying to sell the car private party? If you were to trade it in I guarantee you that what ever dealership will wholesale the car to a wholesaler.

Then again, My boss sold a 98 or 99 green Camry with gold emblems, wood trim, 4cyl with 207,000 miles for $1500. He gave the guy on trade $200. All my boss did was detail it and put it on the lot.

Most polls are used in marketing a product to get a feel for what the average persons opinion is...From politics to the Pepsi Challange it's used, so I figured why not...

I guess I may then be a "fill in the blank" to ask advice from a forum that is all about questions, concerns, advice, sugestions, blah blah blah from a bunch of facless "fill in the blank" yahoo's that actually care enough to respond.

well, I want to Thank those unknown "fill in the blank" for taking the time to answer.

Micky

Id only fix it for yourself, like if you are going to drive it for another year. Otherwise, sell as-is.

A car has a personal worth as well as monitary. I had a customer today put $2000 into a 1999 rav4 with 175000 miles. yet some people dont feel they need to do a $300 maintence service everyone is different. If it was me sell it as is. It will be worth it for a new owner to spend the money for a good car.
