Default 1990 camry i-4 slow acceleration......

"gus" as it has been named. 170k has trouble in accelerating from stand still.
there is no way it will break the tires loose on wet pavement. once going it will accl well to hwy speeds. no ping or clatters. new plugs. rotor and cap. the wires i am not sure. new fuel filter. could the fuel pump be going out? or is the pump a type that it will work or it won't. maybe i need to reset timing? or replace the distributor mod. or could it be the nature of the beast to be slow.

Is this a "new" car for you? Was it ever better? From what I remember, the '90 Camry(LE) was never quick on accel. from a dead stop.JerryR
