Default CV joint?

Hi,

Camry '07 auto, 4cyl, 80k. Occasionaly I can hear CV joint noise (sharp turn, uphil) and also, feel some gentle tapping on my steering wheel. Are they two connected? Both CV joints have been replaced during warranty, the previous owner was not gentle. I can feel that "tapping" also when I am breaking, that is, when changing breaking effort (increasing and decreasing pedal force).
I am worried that it may be related to transmission, or the noise is from that connection between transaxle and transmission, as mechanic said that the CV problem should not feel at the steering wheel. The transmission fluid is replaced about 20k ago, and is clean.

Thanks,

You're not even close.................try this TSB, but you will have to pay for it.

Thank you! So it is possible for steering mechanism to create noise that resembles CV joints?
it makes sense, as the CVs are fairly new.
Do you have any idea about the cost of fixing it, and is it safe to drive like this?

Shaft is $254 list, labor s/b 1 hour ($60-100) is my best guess.

What is your VIN number for TSB applicability?

Should be fine to drive. It's just one or both u-joints are dry.

The car is not with me today (wife is the boss...), but it is first purchased Feb'07 and is North America assembled.

Thanks a lot njerald, at least it is safe to drive till I fix it. I thought it could be a trany or whatever.

Well, it could be something else but I'm going with the odds on possible problem/solution.

The TSB date was April 2007 so I'm sure it applies to your vehicle.

Be sure to post if you find more out..........
