Post 1988 Camry blower

I picked up this 1988 CAMRY to commute with to keep the miles off the Double Cab!

When the heater is on, there seems to be very little air flow. I have disassembled the blower, all is fine. The suction seems to be between the hood and windshield. I made sure it was all clean as far as I can see. Is there possibly something (filter?) farther downstream that could have been clogged by pine needles, etc?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

There are no filters on either air stream side of the fan although there's usually a screen to keep the big stuff out on the intake side. If you move your control to recirc or max that bypasses the outdoor intake and draws air from inside the car which would eliminate that possibility. You also might try removing the fan again and blow compressed air both directions to see if that clears anything out. The other things to check would be any cables or linkages that operate the doors controlling air directional flow. Did you try the motor while it was out to see if all the speeds worked? Sometimes a resistor is used for motor speed and they can fail as could the switch itself. Just a couple of thought to try if you already haven't. Good Luck

If a combo of all these whizz bangs met their claims you'd have to siphon gas out of your tank every second day and sell the excess horsepower on the third????
If your engine doesn't consume ANY oil it will seize???

Default 1988 CAMRY Blower

Well, I thank you for all the suggestions.

I know the different speeds on the blower work, I can hear it when I change the speed. Also I know the RECIRC and FRESH air positions work, again, different noise when taking suction from outside or in. I may pull the blower again and get my air compressor out and see what I can find.

I just think there should be a lot more flow. When the fan is on HIGH, you can barely feel the air coming out.

I am comparing in to the wifes 2002 CAMRY though. Hers would blow your sunglasses off in HIGH Speed!! LOL

At least you found that the inside/outside intake air damper works and the fan has all it's speeds. I gather there was no increase in air flow at the grills in the recirc mode? Something else I thought of is that maybe one of the duct connections has come apart behind the dash. Another one I hesitate to mention but are all the airflow control dampers at the grills open? I'd suggest that if you have a compressor that you remove the fan assembly and then blow the air through the grills instead of at the fan housing. Close every grill damper or the grill itself whichever the set up on the Camry except the one you're blowing into and follow that procedure on each grill opening. That way if there is sufficient air flow it will blow any debris away from the a/c and heater coils not farther into them. Don't forget the defroster openings although that may be a difficult area to reach.

Larry

PS: A leaf blower might be another option if you have or can borrow one.

Ahhhh, the disconnected duct in the dash somewhere!?!? That is one I haven't checked for yet. A very distinct possibility.

I'll let you know what I find...
