Speedometer broke
Hello,
A friend gave me a 1991 Toyota Camry. The transmission went bad on it, and he didn't want to spend the money to fix it, so he gave it to me. I replaced the tranny, got new brakes, the car is good as new.
The only problem is that the speedometer broke a couple of days ago. I went to a mechanic who told me that I might want to get that fixed right away because it could damage the transmission as the transmission wouldn't be changing gears based on true velocity but instead on air intake (I think this applies to an electronic transmission).
This transmission is, however, an automatic mechanical tranny. The gears seem to be changing just fine.
I want to fix it, but I'm in no hurry to do it. Besides, I might trade it for a nice 1995 Beamer.
What experience do you have with broken speedometers (cables, etc.)
Would you fix it right away?
How much would it cost?
Etc., etc., etc...
