This is a discussion thread titled "Error Code P2283", within the Camry forum, part of the Cars & Vans Forums category.
hi to everybody,
i have a Camry 2003 4 cylinders with 75,000 miles on it. On the highway my average gasoline consumption is between 31-33 miles. However, in the last couple of weeks, I can only make around 25-27 miles. In addition, last week Engine Check light came on, I took it to Autozone to read to code, it was P2238. I mistakenly ereased to code and engine check light is not on anymore. Next day took the car to Toyota dealer for check up. They called me and told me there is nothing they can do since there is no error codes in the computer that I should bring the car when the check engine light is on again. In mean time Camry still averages low mileages, so I think something is wrong with emissions. Does Anybody experience similar problems, if so how did you solve it?
Thanks in advance,
Isaac

It stated when I plugged it in, P2283 Generic Injector Control Pressure Sensor Circuit
So, it makes sence. Either too much pressure going to the fuel rail and then to the injector, or something wrong on the injector. Like trash in the line holding an injector open. In either case, there is the code.

YES... it is a CAMRY....
There is a TSB for his 03 camry for code p2238
His vehicle is a 4cyl (PZEV) CALIFORNIA EMMISIONS vehicle.
It needs a ECU Update, that has to be done at a DEALERSHIP.
If the calibration has already been done then it will need a #1 O2 sensor located in the top of the Exh manifold.
SCDTRD you typed in the wrong code. IT IS P2238 not P2283
OOPS I SEE HE DID TOO!
I have Pm'd him and it was P2238

Actually, anybody can reflash the ECU with the information on a reprogramming disc available from Toyota(independant repair shops can purchase it on disc rather than download it from TIS like the dealers) and either a Vetronix scan tool or a J2534 Compatible Vehicle Interface device. However, this repair is covered by your warranty for 96mo/80000 miles,so a dealership would be the most fiscally prudent way to go.And stay away from those pimple-faced kids with their code readers at Odd-Ozone.

Thats great info. I have never worked for a Independant and didnt know that.
Where could i get this disk? Who do i talk to, call, ask ?
I use TIS at work and at home, but it would be nice to have it to help out TS members in my area.
Thanks

Hello: I have an error code P2238 and P2241, and I believe it referss to both oxygen sensors, or to the MAF, however I would like to know what they mean. Thanks
P2238 and P2241, Although the DTC titles say oxygen sensor, these DTCs relate to the Air−Fuel Ratio (A/F) sensor. The Air−Fuel Ratio (A/F) sensor varies its output voltage in proportion to the air−fuel ratio. If the A/F sensor
impedance (alternating current resistance) or voltage output deviates greatly from the standard range, the ECM determines that there is an open or short malfunction in the A/F sensor circuit.
NOTE: It is always helpful to folks if when asking questions dealing with DTC's you actually identify the year and model vehicle and the engine type. You posted in a Camry forum and your profile says 2007 Tundra.

EXCELLENT ADVISE
The Year and make sometimes makes a difference when diagnosing.
I wondered what year camry he had or if it was really an 07 TUNDRA.

Hey, first post. I have a 2004 Camry (4cyl) and I've just started getting the P2238 code. I see that its covered under warranty up to 96mo/80k miles, and I'm the lucky guy who had the code triggered at 82k. It went away after 3 cycles, and about 2 months passed until I got it again yesterday. So I figure I should see to it. Anyway, with no warranty help, I was thinking of trying to correct the problem myself. I figured I should check the wiring before replacing the A/F sensor, but from what I see on here it sounds like this is a rather standard malfunction with a repair solution of a new A/F ratio sensor and an ECU update. So do I just need to go to the dealership then? And what is a California Emissions vehicle? Perhaps my Camry is one, but this is the first I've heard of it.

Hi, I have a 4 cyc 03 camry which has thrown a P2238 error code twice. Would a dying battery effect the Air- fuel ratio sensor output voltage such that it triggered a P2238 error? The last time the chk eng light extinguished after the battery was replaced.
Thanks,
JHM
That could be an issue , yes. BUT>>> there is a TSB for your vehicle TSB EG062-05 that addresses that code. It is an ECU reprogram , it is under warranty for 8yr/80K miles.
