The scan codes don't point to which particular sensor is bad. Do both need to be replaced at the same time? Can they be replaced with the cheaper O2 sensors? Would emissions or performance or economy or all 3 suffer?

Yes,the California Emission Package has A/F sensors instead of O2 sensors. They will not interchange because the signal that they provide to the ECU is totally different. The codes P1133 & PO1135 are both specific to Bank 1,Sensor 1.Bank 1 is the bank that contains cylinder #1,which is the back one,or the one closest to the firewall.Sensor 1 s the one closest to the exhaust manifold. You can see it down behind the engine ,just above the steering rack.
