Default Camry Recommended tire size

Hello all,
I am new to this forum, but I am already a member of Highlander Forum.

The original tire size for 2003 CAMRY SE V6 is 215-60-16. Has anybody installed wider tires in camry SE's like 225-60-16 or 235-60-16. Is it good for the car. How does it impact the milage and safety.

Please advise.

Thanks!

Can't give you much help about increasing the size as I replaced our Camry tires with the all season Bridgestone speed rated tire of the same size. The Camry was a Toyota Corp. California vehicle and built in Japan. I bought it used and it had gummy performance tires which were worn out at 20,000 miles. A larger tire won't have much affect on mileage and maybe a little performance drop off. Safety wise as long as they equal the factory speed rating and don't rub anything you should be OK. Maybe another owner will pop in with more info for you.

If a combo of all these whizz bangs met their claims you'd have to syphon gas out of your tank every second day and sell the excess horsepower on the third????

I've installed a 225-50-R17 and its work great. I like the looks of it better than stock and plus, the car handled much better. However, I noticed the inconsistancy in gas mileage from the beginning as its dropped 1-2 mileage less from the average of 29.3 MPG that I'm use to when I used standard grade fuel. Although, when I've run super unleaded, gas mileage average the same as before at 29.1 - 29.6MPG. Very strange indeed, but I'll take that over stock anyday for better handling/performance reasons.

Hope this helps.

225/60/16
225/55/16
235/50/16

These Are All Exeptable Sizes The Thing You Want To Check Is Tire Rubing And Overall Diameter Of The Tire, Try To Stay + Or- 1/2 Inch And You'll Be Ok. Another Is Staying Same Size But Differt Type Tire Passenger-performance, Performance-ultra Performance.
