No drive foward or reverse

Recently put a new head on a 87 toyota camry sw 2.0l with the A140E auto trans and after drtiving several miles it suddenly quit accelerating and would no longer go either forward or reverse. towed it home and noticed fluid was burnt in color so i changed fluid and filter but this didnt help a bit. fluid level is correct and im sure all adjustments are correct any ideas book only says problem is manual valve lever? please help!
