This is a discussion thread titled "2007 Camry Remote Engine Starter", within the Camry forum, part of the Cars & Vans Forums category.
Anybody seen info on the availability and pricing of the remote engine starter ? I was able to borrow an Owners Guide but dealer has no info on price or availability. The owners manual looks like it uses the existing entry fob.

I have it on my SE. You press the 'lock' button three times holding it for a couple of seconds on the third time. It then starts the motor. The motor stops running when you unlock the doors in any way (from inside, from outside with the key or with the remote) or if you put the vehicle in gear. This is a safety measure in case you have the car running with kids or a dog inside.
Thanks Wireless, that is the type of unit I am looking for.
I have a Python after market unit on my 2002 SE; works well and I use it summer and winter.
I just got off the phoning Toyota Customer Experience at their 800#.
They know nothing about it. No availability or price info. Strange considering I have the Owner's Guide right in my hand !

Toyota remote start installed today. Does not have the features and conveniences of an after market unit but has the basics and integrates well. After market folks I spoke with did not recommend after market install for the 07 Camry with Smart Key
I was at a local dealer to get an estimate to have this Remote Engine Start function installed in my new Camry 2007. The local dealer told us an estimate of $ 800.00 approximately. He said the employees at the dealership get a 20% discount and I can have this installed at non-Toyota service centers for less than $400.00, however it is not advisable as they install one of the car keys inside the car and it interfere with other RF frequency functions.
I was thinking of checking this with one more dealer and have written to Toyota also.

My 2007 Camry XLE loaded with options will be delivered between 25-30 November. I arranged the factory purchase for $700 over invoice. The remote start option wholesale cost to me is $380 [installed] and the MSRP is $529.

Dave,
I just had one installed in my 2007 Camry, by Toyota on Friday August 10th. Monday morning I dropped my car back off to Toyota to have it REMOVED!! It is worthless! The car starter works like this....press LOCK twice, then once more and hold for at least 3 seconds, that STARTS the car. Then when you are ready to drive the car, you must hit the UNLOCK button to unlock the car door...well they have it set up that the UNLOCK button then SHUTS down the engine...so you have to get in the car and manually start the car up!! That is wear and tear on your battery, starter and a waste of fuel! My Toyota dealer was extremely understanding and did not give me one ounce of grief, they even supplied with another car while they are removing the starter from my car. They claim the price is 600 something and because I am a new car owner they gave me a 20% discount. I told them had the car of came with THAT remote starter I would not have even considered buying that car. It is worthless. I am looking into buying an after-market starter.
I just purchased a Toyota factory remote car starter on ebay for my wife's 2007 Camry SE.
It didn't come with an installation guide. Can anyone scan it into their computer and make it available to me. Or is there a web address where it is available? Please Help ME!!!
I just had the Viper remote start installed last Friday. Dealer wanted $620 for install of the factory unit and with tax and installation I paid $417 for the Viper with a 5 year warranty on the unit and a 1 year on the remote fob. The unit was car specific so you do not have to have a extra key made to put in the control unit. ( Found that out after paying dealer $80 for a valet key.) I would rather have had the Toyota remote so as to integrate it into the factory key fob. But like jeannietir, I did not want to start the car 2 times every time I use it. Extra wear and tear. I don't understand Toyota's thinking about putting the shut off switch on the door. They say it is because if you had kids in the car etc. With the after market the "kids" couldn't drive off anyhow because when you apply the brake to put it in gear it shuts down if the key is not turned to run. The Viper has good range. The only thing I don't like is having to have a extra remote fob.

Today I had a local store a block from my house install aftermarket - Viper.
I LOVE it!! and it only cost me $290.00 and it was installed in one hour!!
I did have to give up the valet key, but it was better then having to buy a key with a chip in it...Toyota told me one of those would cost 300 and then an additional 45 I think it was to register it. I love the range of my viper. I still need my key remote to open trunk and if my car is running the trunk will not open by remote. but I don't recall if it did that prior to having the viper starter put in. but I'm much happier!! I hated Toyota's starter, that was a disaster!
