Steering wheel strange noise

I have a 2003 Camray LE and when I turn the steering wheel I get a funny noise. Not grinding or squeking, but kind of in between. I checked the power streeing fluid and it is OK. Any ideas? Thanks

If we're thinking of the same noise, alot of cars with power steering do that, it's kinda like a suppressed moaning, somewhat stressed-sounding. I believe this is just the power steering system working.

mine does squeek..any ideas what can be causing it? It is obvius everytime I turn the wheel.

if you look by the pedals there is a big rubber grommet where the steering shaft goes through the firewall. stick a screwdriver or pick in there to pull it back a little and spray some lubricant in there, white lithium grease works well. make sure youre getting it in between the shaft and the grommet, it has a couple folds in it that may decieve you.

My Tundra just started making a low vibration noise when turning.....Any idea what is causing this problem? Power steering fluid is fine....is there a TSB for this?

OK, what does that TSB say, or where can I read a copy on the web?

My wife's Camry has been making that sound, and I would like to fix it myself, if possible.

OK, I found a reference on another forum. The TSB says to do what drinkdrive says above. I used some white lithium grease out of a tube to lubricate the surface of the intermediate steering shaft, where it passes through the rubber gromet, problem solved.

this is the easiest fix. the tsb everyone is talking about is a "knocking" noise on turns and requires you to replace the whole steering intermediate shaft. can be expensive if not covered under warranty.
