1998 Camry CODE HELP!!!!

Hello, my wifes 1998 camry shows a check engine light. We took it to AutoZone and they found a code: P1780 (transmission Control Switch (O/D Cancel) out of shelf range. I have an appointment later this afternoon with my toyota dealership. Does anyone know what this part might be and how much it ususally costs or what it even is? Also the reverse lights are not working and I replaced them and they are still not working. The rear light warning indicator light is on and the "R" reverse light stays lit even if the car is not in reverse? Any suggestions/feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Look for broken wires in the trunk. The harness for the deck lid. The wires break where the flex when the trunk is opened/closed. When the backup light shorts, it gives a range switch code.
