Question 1993 Camry LE Cold Starting Problem

I have a 1993 Camry LE w/ 125K miles. When I try to start the car in the early morning when it is cold, it will crank and turn over but will not continue to run. I sometimes have to start it 5-8 times before it will finally run without me giving it gas. Giving it more gas while trying to start it doesn't seem to help. It seems to idle too low to me even after getting it started. Any ideas what might be wrong? Thanks in advance.

Try changing the oil, put in new spark plugs, and check the anti-freeze level. Don't pump the pedal to much, otherwise the engine will flood. May also be a problem with the distrib. cap.

i need more info on your problem but check the air intake boot and make sure it is installed properly and has no splits in it. this will cause hard starting and a low idle.
what rpm's does it run after it starts cold? yspert

Start by cleaning the idle air control (IAC) valve.

Bad coolant temperature sensor. Had the same problem on my '93 Corolla. It would send false info to ECU causing wierd mixture settings. $20 at the dealer I think and 15 minutes to replace.

possible cold start injector circuit issue, if it has one.

I'd like to know if you got the problem fixed and what it turned out to be the problem because I have the same problem with my 95 camry 4-cyl. It will only start if I spray starting fluid into the intake. Thanks

It's definitely the cold start value on the intake manifold (passenger side just left of the '3000' label and has a wire and fuel line connected to it). I got one the salvage yard and applied some carb cleaner. I did drill a very small hole down the tube part and used a very thin paperclip to help clean it out. Now my 93' Carmy started fine without spraying starter fluid down the intake manifold. For the non-DIYs, just go on ebay and search a new cold start valve, they range in price new from $40.00-110.00 dollars (including shipping)
