Default GTA Traffic!

It seems there are only two seasons in Ontario, winter and construction!

I have a small roofing/siding/aluminum business, so I tend to be all over the place, anywhere from Barrie to Toronto and it seems no matter where I drive I find construction.

Avenue road is currently being fixed, I hope Bathurst south of the 401 is next, that road is like driving over basketballs.

The thing about construction that bothers me isn't the fact that there are lane reductions, its the idiots who either purposely drive all the way up to the closed lane and then want in, or the people who won't let anybody in.

Today I was taking the 401 North ramp onto the 404, which goes from 2 lanes to 1 lane where it merges with the rest of the northbound lanes coming from the DVP and 401 West. People coming from those two sources were trying to get into the lane I was in...which ends!!!

Where are their brains?

I'm trying to merge to the right, and they are crossing the middle lane and coming into my merge lane. At one point, a person merging right almost slammed into a car entering his lane. I suppose the other person must have been frustrated from driving on DVP north and wanted to take any lane available. Its like rats from a sinking ship.

Our highways were planned for traffic levels in the 80s, its crazy.

For instance, I don't understand why they don't extend the southbound HOV lane on the 404, there's a huge bottle neck at Elgin Mills, why can't they start it there?

Does anybody think the HOV lanes help?

In general, Yes, I feel they help because it encourages people to buddy up, especially when they are sitting still in traffic and the HOV people are doing the limit or faster.

You're right our highways suck. Thats what all this construction is about trying to fix the mess they did by not improving the highways for years. Unfortunately with the way housing's going up everywhere by the time they're done updating the roads, they're outdated!!! I know in my work i often start at 5am just to beat traffic.

I hear you, the earlier the better it seems.

If I leave my house at 6 I can be downtown in about 45 minutes, if I leave at 7 its more like 1.5 hours.

Now they are talking about giving buses the left lane of the DVP!!

It seems as if the people who decide what highways to fix, HOV lanes and other traffic stuff dont cummute daily on our streets. That would explain their stupid planning. All they would have to do is look where the housing is going up like crazy and provide better access into and out of those areas. I'm familiar with the west end of the GTA and the housing in Georgetown and Milton is going up like crazy yet no improvements to the 401, Steeles, Derry or hwy7 have been made. Dont the politicians see what this is going to lead to, and has led to already. The only one that is ontop of their game is the 407 they know they need to expand and reduce traffic jams as much as possible so people will pay the $.11/km or however much it is now. But that's another government screw job handed down to us to pay for again and again and again.

The last time I was in Brampton I noticed the 410 has been extended, the cars were not on it yet, but its been paved and the light poles are in.

Now they just need to take it north to Wasaga or Barrie.

Toronto could use a belt way, the 407 was supposed to be it, but who wants to drive on a beltway that is a toll road. Perhaps something North of 407.

Bloomington south of Aurora should be made into a highway connecting the 400 and 404.

Bathurst should also be a north-south corridor.
