I've been scanning the market (canadian/US) for a used tundra or tacoma, with the Tundra being my preference. It seems to me that there are a lot of used Tundra's/Tacoma's being brought up from the US and sold through used car dealers...... has anyone imported a Tundra or Tacoma ??? Prices seem very good and while the mileage seems high, I'm looking for a second vehicle for traveling back and forth to the cabin, etc.. so I'm not in the market for a newer one...
I've imported a Honda van into Canada from the states. Was totally painless and I saved big bucks. I think Toyota is even better cause as far as I know Toyota Canada does honour the warranty. You may want to check for yourself.

Mine is an 05 from the US. A friend is a dealer and importer. I have used him before to ship cars to the US. I would suggest you talk to an import broker before you buy. They can tell you about all the paper work that needs to get filled out. The cost of paying a broker used to be about $500. Might be more for you given your location but not sure.

I considered doing this too but found out online what paperwork is required and found it so easy that I saved the $500. Go the RIV.ca website and it will tell you everything you need to know.

I imported my 2000 Tundra from North Dakota into Saskatchewan, 1st time importing and it was relatively easy. Saved some money too before the CDN dollar dropped.
Purchased a 2007 tundra on e-bay in Feb 08 , picked it up in Alabama and saved a bundle. Paper work is easy and the main thing that may have to be installed is daytime running lights. Toyota Canada does honour the warranty.
Hi. I'm in Alberta, South of Calgary.
I've imported a 2002 Lexus RX300 from Florida. That was nearly 2 years ago when our dollar was worth more. Same vehicle in Calgary was listed at $39,000. The one I bought in Florida from a dealer had three times LESS mileage, mint condition, trailer package and roof rack. The flight was through Westjet at $120.00. Dealer picked me up in Orlando and treated me very well. The costsavings was nearly $15.000.
The paper work was a breeze! I talked o other people who did this and got the rest of the info on the internet. It was easy and I would do it again in a flash. Canadian dealers will not see me again. I suggest you look deep in the South because their roads are in great condition, ie: no road salt, no rock chips. For me, it was a nice 4 day drive back to Canada and met some really nice folks on the way. At the border, I was in the USA customs office for less then 15 minutes. In Canadian customs for less then 30 minutes as I had all the info in a 3 ring binder. While in customs, I witnessed an older couple who had purchased a very nice vehicle in the USA BUT had forgotten to obtain a "recall" letter from the manufacturer. They were stuck at customs! You must do all your homework and double check EVERYTHING before going ahead. Also, I strongly suggest that you deal only with reputable dealers so you don't get burned. Before making a payment, go to your bank, tell them what you want to do and have them check out the seller's bank account. They did it for me and when I got on the plane for Florida, I went with complete peace of mind. Do your homework, fax the USA customs before going down or else you will not be allowed through the border with your vehicle. I bought mine in Maitland, Orlando at Premier Auto Center where they deal with next to new vehicles or high quality.
Stay away from California where they will charge you an extra 8% tax.
I hope this helps and if you have any questions, do email me and I will help you.

Have a great day.
Very helpful posts here. My only suggestion from buying in the south is to ensure there hasn't been a hurricane in the past 18mos. I've heard some people had waterlogged cars.
Does anyone know if you get hammered with the "green levy" at customs if you bring back a gas guzzler? The boss wants a Sequoia and the $2000 savings in that alone would be worth it if the dollar keeps heading back north.
The two things ABSOLUTELY not to forget are 1: make sure the US border has the necessary paperwork three days before you arrive, and make sure the importation documents are at hand, in particular the sales receipt and the recall clearance (as noted above) I've imported several camping trailers and my current Tundra, and it was very smooth. No need to spend $500, you can easily do it all yourself.

I just finished importing a 08 tundra. As mentioned above, a fairly simple process as long as you spend an hour or so educating yourself on the RIV and transport canada web site. There is one thing i want to point out that nearly gave me heart failure yesterday. As part of the process , RIV will email you form B (the one you take to Canadain Tire along with the form A from customs) after they are finished processing your form A. Listed on form B is a list of check marks the tech at Canadian Tire is supposed to check off. The last check mark on my form B stated "This vechicle is INADMISABLE if equipped with a LIFT KIT" No where in my research did i ever see this listed before . My newTundra has a 3" leveling kit installed by the original dealer. As it turned out, the tech spent exactly 2 minutes on my vehicle. He read the VIN/Odometer and checked for daytime running lights, thats it. i don't know what would have happened if he checked further.
Guy's you may want to keep this mind if you are looking at importing a tundra with a 6" lift kit.
