I've been pricing out a few things for the 09 CM I have on order - floormats, tonneau, step tubes, tires, etc. I went to a couple of the only truck accesory dealers in Edmonton - wow what a rip off. When I price things out, I either get more for the same price, or get the same for 20% less even with exchange.
Needless to say, the locals won't be getting anything from me other than some tint and a spray in boxliner.
I hear you brother. The incredible irony is they remain proud with their markups despite the recession. UPS, Fedex, ebay etc are your friends. I haven't bought anything locally in years, except at foreclosure sales.
On some parts it seems like we come out ahead, like pads and rotors, but things like tires are a different story.
There's also a big difference depending on which state it comes from. I priced the same tires in Michigan and NY state, they were considerably cheaper in Michigan.

I was going to buy tires in NY state when I go camping there the August 1st weekend, but my tires are still decent, I'll probably wait until the fall. I know they won't go another winter.

We try to be competitve with the US market & ebay but you have to remember that most ebay stores do not have overhead, employees, or even stock on the particular product. We try to give fair pricing to all of our customers, but sometimes customer service is worth the extra couple of bucks you have to pay. If the price is double of what you can get if for in the US ( after duties, taxes & exchange ) then there's a problem. We can normally match if not beat most prices from ebay or from our local competitors, but most of the time we don't have to because we offer the installation services as well as after sales service.

I hear you on the rip-offs in Canada. I just called my local dealer here in Nova Scotia for a price on the new 20 inch five spoke wheels. They said $946. I asked if that was for all four thinking that was a good price, it was for 1 wheel!! $946 for a single wheel, what the f*ck! Unreal, you can get them for $275 in the states.
Are you looking for the limited model ones....if so call a few dealers and look for a set of take off rims. A lot of guys buy a Ltd then throw 18" rims on it to get a better ride and selection of off road tires. That's how I got my winter rims....I paid under $1k for 4, not a lot more than steelies would have been!!
Yep I agree!
The pricing in Canada is absolutely ridiculous!
In BC we have some excellent offroading stores and they guys are very helpful and knowledgeable and I have picked their brains on many occassions. Sadly, they are acutely aware of the ridiculous markup on their products but don't seem willing to make changes. Even when I have mentioned, after 30 minutes of discussing a particular part, that I would be buying on ebay their attitude is simply "good luck". It's really frustrating becuase you want to support your local economy but not for a 40% markup. Sorry.

I don't mind the mark-ups on the accessories.. as long as you _shop smart_ and keep your eyes open with that Tim Horton's Double Double firmly gripped in one hand.
As a small business owner profit is not a dirty word. Although I do agree that the amount of profit can be considered excessive the cost of operating a business in Canada is higher than in the US. Try and put yourself in the owners place or put a true value on your time when it comes to installation not to mention the paperwork to order products, freight, duties, taxes, labour, insurance, overhead... I hope you get my drift.
My brother is a business owner himself and while its true that the prices are sky high, one must consider also the need to make a _LIVING_, a REASONABLE LIVING from the expenses one incurs.

In Edmonton call Rapid Revolutions 780 455 7553 ask for Kevin Unlikely you will get the accesory's cheaper any where else cheaper including importing them from the US after you factor in shipping duties and exchange.
