Default O2 Sensor Malfunction - PO135

Hi,

My 2002 Tundra has the check engine light illuminated with code PO135, which is a malfunction of the O2 sensors. In the USA all Tundra owners have been contacted and issued a letter indicating their vehicles will be covered for 7 years or 90,000 miles specifically against this problem.

Took my Tundra to the dealer, showed them the letter and guess what...
- They will not honor the "American" extended warranty. Said they have no knowledge any such campaign, warranty or any issue whatsoever regarding failed O2 sensors.
- Quoted me $660 plus tax to replace the two sensors.

Are there any other Canadians out there with this problem? If so did your dealer offer any assistance? I've opened up a case file with Toyota Canada and refused to pay for this repair. Fat lot of good that will get me, as they have me between a rock and a hard place. I'm steamed!!!

DT

I'm not Canadian so I can't help you much there, but I feel your pain. I had an O2 problem on my 01 and this was before I found Tundra Solutions. I had a left bank sensor go bad outside of Toyota's warranty. The problem with Toyota warranty parts is that they send back all thier bad parts for bench check. It's great for their quality control, but sucks if you want them to replace both sensors because of their bad series of O2 sensor production run. I thought the codes actually broke down into left and right bank O2 sensors to tell you exactly which sensor needs replacing. There are a lot of gear heads here so be patient for other replies to your post. I wouldn’t be paying no $600 to a dealer for this fix. Heck, you can buy 2 new O2 sensors and the special O2 socket for less than that to do it yourself.

I found tundrasolutions looking for information on oygen sensors.
At 32,000 km the check engine light came on in my 2002 4x4 Tundra.
Just to diagnose code P0155 cost $47.50
Replace sensor 1 bank 2 $403.37
Drove less than 5km and check engine light came on again.
seems it sensor 2 bank 2
Toyota Canada does not recognize the Toyota USA campaign for
the exteneded warranty although in my correspondence with them
they seem to admit the sensors in the Canadian trucks are identical.
Currently waiting for second sensor and for the dealer's response.
As a Toyota owner for over 25 years .... Landcruisers ... it is
very disappoinbting to be getting the run-around. Obviously a defective
part. Any ideas or help ?

Thumbs up Re: O2 Sensor Malfunction - PO135

Oh yes the dreaded O2 Sensor I had the same problem and Toyota did what I expected nothing .So i found a wrecker in the states and got one from them and then the other went so ihad to get another SO the problem fixed for now .But Toyota aren't that good with helping you out with problems .But thats the only problem that I have had with the truck since I bought it .So i guess that a good thing .
