Default starters

I have a Pontiac Vibe which I understand is basically the same as the Matrix. It is in the shop at the moment. It wouldn't start Thursday evening and even if we could get it to start, it wouldn't stay started. We were told today they are waiting for a starter assembly (?) to arrive from Reno. We only have about 26,000 on the car. Is this a typical problem with these cars or just a fluke?

OK, I have to ask, if you can get the car started then why do you think it is the starter? The only thing the starter does is rotate the the crank through the fly wheel/ring gear. It has nothing to do with keeping the engine running! Do you have fuel in the tank? Is the electric fuel pump working? Have you checked all the fuses?

On the paperwork we got back it says "replaced PCM and reprogrammed. That's all I know, and I understood that was a starter module or some such.
