Question OK, Now what did I do?

OK.

I went to install Satellite Radio in my 2K2 Corolla. When I get it all put back together, and reconnect the battery, strange things began to happen.

The whole dash started blinking like the Hazard lights were turned on which they weren't. It stopped after about 30 seconds but sometimes started doing it again; seemingly at random. I can hear the sound of a clicking noise coming from the area left of the steering column. The car can start OK (sometimes the blinking will come back on; sometimes not.) The turn signals, radio, cigarette lighter (that I tapped for power the for Sat. radio; it doesn't work, naturally ) and probably other things don't work either.

I suspect I blew a fuse somewhere (it was getting dark and too difficult to work) but the blinking thing has me mystified.

Any thoughts?

Check the fuse, all listed items run in acc or run position of the key.
The strange flickering sounds like either broken wire or the flasher was tapped into.
May need to check the fuses under the hood but probably in the car behind the little compartment on the left of the dash.

Well, it turns out I did blow the cig-lighter fuse. But after two attempts to install two different Audiovox XM XpressR Satellite Receiver units (both were factory defects) I said the hell with it, and put it all back together.

It is working fine now. Back to the drawing board.

How about tapping off the radio wiring as it has switched power and hot, dash light control etc? Or at least replicate that wiring.
Are you making this a permanent install or removable?

It will be permanent once I get it done.

Why can't I tap off of the cig-lighter? It is switched also.

I removed the console, and tapped into the wires for the cig-lighter. I wired in a second cig-lighter socket, so I can just plug the XM unit straight in, and keep everything hidden behind the console.

It seems strange the issue you had with cig lighter.
I wonder if the XM radio power wires are reversed or if Toyota flips the wiring, did you happen to verify the polarity with a meter?

The polarity of the cig-lighter(s) are correct. Maybe the power supplies for the XM unit were wired bass-ackwards internally, which could explain a few things.

I figured out the myterious blinking problem. It was the aftermarket keyless entry box that had a loose connection, The Corolla itself seems to be OK.

Does the XM come with a cig adapter or is to be wired in from the factory?

It comes with a cig adapter, but what I plan to do on my Corolla what I did on my Tundra. I'm going to tap a new cig adapter socket onto the back of the built in one, and plug the XM adapter into the second one (and the whole mess will be hidden inside the console.)

Don't forget to post your up dates.
I'd like to know how you made out.

Was pulling the console apart straight forward, any hidden screws or clips?
