EGR code and misfiring...
Hi guys, first post and aI was wondering if you guys could give me a hand.
I have a 97 Toyota Corolla, 1.6 litre engine. About two weeks ago my car would not start and had it towed to the mechanic. They had to replace distributor and crank sensor and it's running now but it now missfire and this did not happen before I brought it in. New spark plugs and wires too.. and the missfiring seems to happen at speeds between 50-65 mph and i dont feel anything below 50 or above 67-70.
The code came back and said EGR was acting up but I've asked people and they keep telling me that they have never heard of a EGR causing misfire and this was not happening before I took it to the mechanic.
The mechanic wants to replace EGR modulator and EGR "switch valve" which i am assuming is just the EGR valve.
I have little experience with cars so I'm not sure if emmissions parts can cause problems with misfiring... I worry that the people are picking up on my lack of knowledge so is there any test I can do to determine cause of missfiring?
So essentialy I'm just wondering if EGR can lead to missfiring..sorry for the long post, thought i'd add some back up to the problems.
Thank you very much for any help guys.
