03 corolla - climate control not working

My climate adjuster is not working in my 03 corolla. I found a wire with a hook at the end that is not hooked to anything, and moves in and out when I turn it from hot to cold. What is this wire called? Where does it need to be hooked to? Any help would be great; I've been driving around in 20 degree weather with now heat.

Figured it out. The hook is supposed to be attached to a piece of white plastic under the front passenger footwell, right where feet would easily kick it off. I have heat again!
