Default 2000 Corolla - Dead Side Tail Light?!?!?!?

OK my passenger side tail light is dead. There are 2 bulbs, 1 directly in back, 1 on side. the side 1 is dead. I have been to Walmart, Pepboys and bought the exact replacement models but they still do NOT turn on. I do not believe I bought defective bulbs. Something else is wrong....

What could it be!?!?!?!?!?!?

Are you sure the sockets the bulbs plug into have power? Could they be corroded? Use a test light or a volt meter to see if the contacts are getting juice.
