Corolla MatrixGeneral discussion forum for the Toyota Corolla and Toyota Matrix.
This is a discussion thread titled "Just Picked up my 09 Corolla S", within the Corolla Matrix forum, part of the Cars & Vans Forums category.
I have had my 09 S for about a week now. I had a Corolla S before so knew what to expect. There are serval new features that make is a little nicer and a lot safer. I wish it had rear disk breaks like my Camry did. All in all I like the car very much.

All a man really needs for happiness in this world is a good woman, a faithful dog, and a big-a$$ed set of tires on his truck.

Congratulations on the new car. You should have waited until next week and got a 2010.
Seems like they are getting too far ahead of themselves on model years. Next year's models used to come out in September. Now it's January or February.
Just located a decent deal on the web for an 09 XLE Rolla with every option code including Nav. $500 over invoice. Was truly hard to find. Everyone wanted MSRP. Understood since it is so new. BTW, they are giving away the 08's like crazy.
This is for a family member who was insistent on buying now.
In Classic Silver.
There is hardly any XLE inventory let alone in Silver. I searched the country. Personnally, I feel it is not a good time to buy this car. Just released and all. The dealers got some inventory for the floor.
The pricing is all screwed up because the dealers weren't given all the numbers up front. Too many option conflicts that need to be sorted out. The Toyota web site info is all wrong regarding price , with packages and accessories. The S is mostly what I've seen out there. But, Test drove a base XLE locally. The EPS steering is funky like the rest of Toyotas EPS lineup...including the 08 HL.
It must be ordered from NUMMI. 4-6 week wait. The only way.
Compared to 08, the Rolla is 150 pound heavier, approx. 1" lower, interior is almost 2" wider, .5" longer. Identical 102.4" wheebase as 08. Almost 2 cubic ft more interior room.
Not a bad car overall. And Toyota has upped the price substantially over the 08's. i.e. The V.I.P. is $120 more on the 09's.
BTW, I would not consider the 2.4 engine. The MPG drops by 5. What for ,yu buy this car for economy. And yes the rear susp. is not Independant and drum brakes only. Only the XRS gets the rear discs. But why get an XRS??...yu might as well get yourself into a Camry for that small price diff. Yu get more car for the dollar.
The 1.8 is now Dual VVT-i..as is the 2.4 and most Toyota engines.

Yep it's weard how they like to bring any re-done model out real early.
Car is still doing real good, averaging 37 mpg so I'm pleased. That is 60% highway and %40 city. I need to take some photos and just haven't done that yet.

I have owned 2 Tundra's and know just how you feel!!
I could not justify using a truck to take just me back and forth to work and what not at 18 mpgs. I guess it's time we change our ways.

CurryBob.........what percent of town verses highway/ rural do you drive to get that mileage?...We have an 08 and have been getting 32 to 34 with a 60 to 40 percent of town verses rural........just curious
I drive 15 miles one way to work. None is interstate but rural highway. I work at an Army Depot and the only simulated city driving is the last 6 miles.
I also run 40 lbs in my tires and have for the last 7 or 8 years now. I live in Alabama and we don't have winter blend gas. I will also be switching to Mobile-One syn oil at the first oil change at 5,000 miles. My last Corlla I had in 06 got 40 mpg on the interstate running 70-75 mph.

CurryBob....Thanks for the quick reply..... I was wondering because as of yet we have not had a good opertunity to hit the open road yet.....I can see the possibility of 40 mpg for us if/when we get on the open road.......is yours stick or auto?.....size tire?
4sp automatic with stock tires, not sure what they come with. I have an S model so it has the ground effects and spoiler, not sure if this changes the drag coefficent or not. It might be slightly lower.

Yeah... its really weighing on my mind. I've got an 05 DC X-SP that I really dont want to part with... but it cost me almost $40 to fill up from HALF A TANK. Yeah... depressing...
I'm just wondering if buying a new Corolla will be best in the long run since I would be spending less on gas... I kinda like the XRS... but it aint no X-SP...
We get some of the "kids" that wanna race us in other 4cyl cars......... I think it is because we put the UNI-CHIP sticker from my truck on the back window............it is amazing how a sticker will hype some of them up to race.............then they look at the two old people in it
