of course I still don't have hardley any miles because of that motorcycle accident I had. The auto is great and a good thing I got it because my right elbow is still messed up. I've only got 2600 miles and looks like I my be getting my wife's 09 Camry Hybrid. She wants to go back to a Tacoma like we traded in on the Camry. It was a 2007 4 dr TRD. Getting in and out of the smaller Corolla is a little harder on me than the Camry so guess I'm going to give in to her because it is easier for me to drive the Camry. Love the XRS though. Because they have a $2,000 rebate on them now I'm looking at getting only $19k for my car. Sucks

That sucks about the accident. I remember you telling me about that a while back. I hope you're getting around better though.
Yeah, the Corolla while it is very nice, still is not a truck. I ended up buying up an old '89 Chevy RCLB dually 454 for hauling around my stuff on the weekend. I'd love to drive a truck again full time but I dont know if I can handle the expense of gas if it decides to rocket back up. Then its also not worth taking the hit on trading in the 'rolla. Maybe in a year after I've got this thing paid for I might look into getting a used Tundra. I'm thinking I still might get an '05 X-SP like I used to have. That truck was just what I needed.
Anyways, I've got a 70k mile warranty on the 'rolla. So I'll hopefully have warranty throughout the period that I have the car. With the prices the way they are on trucks, and used trucks, chances are I might wind up back in a truck as long as gas doesnt get stupid again. (which we all know they will some day...)
I looked at some used Tundra's and they have gone up alot now plus really nice ones are hard to find. I liked the old body style Tundra's better.
Getting along pretty good but will have to have more surgey on the elbow to try to improve mobility.

Yeah, I had been seeing X-SP in the 2005/2006 era for not too bad. $20k with 25k miles or so. But it has been a while since I've looked. The X-SP was usually a pretty good deal since they had leather and wood grain, but were really just a dolled up SR5. Now the Limited edition trucks are still expensive regardless.
I could almost kick myself for having paid all the extra I did in to my XRS. I could have almost paid cash for an '08, but I wouldnt have gotten what I wanted. Like you said, now they're putting out the $2k cash back and what not. When I got mine they had NO deals out there. I couldnt even get a lower interest rate on them or anything. Not like that mattered because of the small ammount I was financing, but still. They had no deals out for them this time last year.
Now that I think of it, I have had my car for a year now give or take a couple weeks.
Bob, I wish you a continued speedy recovery. I'll deffinatly be saying some prayers for you. I've had a few friends get messed up riding bike and it really is no fun. It sucks falling off a mountain bike...

I guess I'll update this as it has been a while since I've been around on this site. I've got about 22500 miles on the car. Mostly interstate and highway for the most part. No real issues other than I'm going to have to get the windshield replaced since there is a factory rock magnet in there...
Anyways, everything still is pretty much the same. Gets about the same MPGs, still needs a 6th gear in the gearbox. Still is quick off the line, and rides pretty good. So no news is good news!
I have driven the SE Camry and the V6 XLE. The V6 is quick and powerful but would not go that route with the fuel MPGs. The Corolla is the right size for me to drive to work and what not. We have a Hybrid Camry and love it. It actually gets better mileage than my Corolla. I may wait till the 2010 Camrys come out and get me a Hybrid also but not sure yet. The S is such a good looking and great performer just wish it had the 4 wh disk and 17" wheels like yours.
what tires are you going with? I think most OEM tires are lucky if you get 40,000 miles.
A good set of passenger car tires should last 60,000 miles or more with regular rotations and air pressure checks.
regards
I pulled the wheels off this past weekend to give them a good wash/wax and wow, I really wore down the fronts. Not rotating them really hasn't helped me any. I quit doing that about the time I moved into the my new house, and I rode them HARD. They've still got a little life in them, but by summer, I'll be looking into Michilen or BFG's. I've always had good luck with either of those as far as truck tires go.
Thankfully enough, the newness of riding my car hard is wearning off and I drive much more tame now, with the occasional run off the line.
Also, it makes a HUGE difference when you pull the wheels off and clean them inside and out. I took the center cap off and scrubed it with a tooth brush. Then waxed the wheels inside and out. She looks good as new!
Now if it would quit raining, I would drive the car.
So, I'm at 31,500 miles on the car. Just did another oil change. Mobil1 0w20 with a Mobil1 'performance' filter. I've still got the TWM performance short throw shifter, and I'm loving it. 10 times better than that truck shifter that was on there. The only issue with the short shifter is when you have a drink in the cup holder near the shifter, your arm will tend to bump into it when pulling down into 2nd and 4th.
I've been having a little issue with low idle from time to time. Usually after the engine is warm, the idle will dip down around 500RPM or so and cause the engine to shudder a bit. I started running 93 octane full time now, and have run a couple pints of Sea Foam through it and it seems to have helped a pretty good bit. We'll see as the weather warms up.
Other than that, the car still pulls real good and runs good.
