I have an S so it doesn't have the 4 wheel disc breaks. I have notice the breaks have alot of break peddel travel and seem mushy because of that. They work well enough but If I pump the peddel it shotens the travel of the break peddel. Has anyone else noticed that? I was thinking of taken it in and making sure this is normal.
If I get in my wife's FJ after driving mine, I almost put us into the windshield when I apply the breaks.

Right, I was torn between the XRS and the S because of that. I didn't want to give up the mileage though. I wish they had at least offered it as an option because I sure would have went for it. I'm getting old I guess but at least I do have my Harley to get my speed demon satisfied.

Clean and adjust your rear brakes and the pedal will be great again.

I do plan on taking back to Toyota to have them check but the car is new and have felt this way from the day I picked up the car so I don't think cleaning will help. They may need adjusting if that is possible, I sure hope so.

Test drove a 09 S today and the brakes felt great. We plan on buying one in May. The exact one is being built tomorrow actually and will be down here in Fredericksburg by the second week of May.

Thanks guys. We have been test driving small cars for a while (civic, astra, focus, mazda3, spectra) and the Corolla outshined them all. I did not feel comfy in the civic at all and neither did my funny little honey. I dont mind the dash in the civic but comfort is pretty darn important.
The corolla will serve as a commuter and daily errand car instead of using the Tundra.

I'd imagine the corolla's get better mpg as well, don't they?
Plan on your cost of fuel going down quite a bit. Anymore, a commuter car is almost a neccessity.
for the soggy brake pedal feel... you could always replace those crappy stock rubber hoses with nice stainless steel braided ones... that would fix the pedal feeling spongy... but you shouldn't have that to begin with, that usually only happens with time...
I drove an 09 Corolla XLE (1.8 with rear drums) It had 1 mile on it!! when the dealer got. It went from Cambridge Canada to Freight. I have since driven the same with 65 miles on it. The brakes still feel fine.
But they usually get better and harder/firmer. after a 100-300 mile break-in.
BTW...I would drive to a safe area and do three-four moderate to firm stops from approx.20 mph while in reverse... this will adjust the the rear drum brakes by reducing the slack travel of the shoes. Yu should notice a bit higher pedal with less travel. Don't stomp and screach the tires though.
