Wink Intermittent Check Engine Light : Shift Computer

Just got hit by an intermittent check engine light. While on drive, from a full stop, car jerks slightly upon release of brakes and stepping on the gas pedal. A slight thud is felt everytime the gear upshifts.

Went to the dealership and they found out that there is a Service Bulettin regarding the ECM. Toyota will replace the ECM upon verification of a code regardless if the problem is intermittent or permanent.

Also, squeaking belt/tensioner on a cold damp day. They will replace the tensioner and belt. It looks like another service bulettin.

I observed the same exact two issues yesterday on a customers 06 XR with just 31K miles.
( March 06 Production date)

The belt tensioner "pre-load" becomes weak and upon cold damp startups there is much BELT sqeaking.

The DTC code of P2176 is a known ECM issue that affects the transmission pressure solenoid control . This causes rough "HARD" shifts.

It is intersesting to note that The Service bulletin is for 2005 Matrix Automatics only.
I don't know how Toyota is approaching this on 2006's.

The customer did not bother getting it fixed. He is trading it in today for a 2009 Matrix "S" 5-Speed "stickshift".
But these 2 issues would fall under MFR's 3yr/36mos warranty.
