Default 2006 Corolla LE - Keyless Entry Problem

This morning I tried to use the keyless entry fob to unlock the car and nothing happened. So I replaced the battery in the fob, still no joy.

When sitting in the car the remote will lock and unlock the doors -- but outside the car it does not work at all. -- Except when I use the remote near the gas cap area.

I just started looking into this and will post the solution if I find it, but any ideas would be welcome.

The problem is gone on its own.

    My guess:

I keep a Motorola H700 bluetooth headset in the car. During the time of the problem it stopped working with the phone -- I noticed this before the remote problem. After eventually taking the headset inside, charging it, and re-associating it with the phone the problem with the remote stopped.

Now I am putting this together after the fact. I did not fix the headset thinking it would solve the remote problem -- so either it did, or the problem will reappear someday.

Just stumbled on this looking for something else...

It was a bad cell in the battery.
