Default tightening Emergency Break on 94 corolla

Hi guys, I was wondering how to tighten the emergency break on a 1994 corolla because mine seems to be getting loose. I would just like to have it, if my breaks ever decide to go out. Any input is appreciated

Default Re: tightening Emergency Break on 94 corolla

RettgerTRDTundra,

According to my auto repair manual, the procedure to tighten the parking brakes is as follows:

1) remove the center console (it is just screwed in place)
-with the console removed, you should see the parking brake cable adjuster
2) loosen the upper nut (which is a lock nut) while holding the adjusting nut (lower nut) with a wrench.
3) turn the adjusting nut (lower nut) until the desired tightness is achieved.
4) tighten lock nut (upper nut).
5) reinstall center console

When properly adjusted, the parking brake lever should travel between four to seven "clicks" when pulled moderately.

Hope this helps,
Strib
