Default intermittent check engine light

Here I am again. The ex-wifes 2006 matrix has an intermittent (although now more steady) check engine light on. I have not had a chance to put my scanner on it to see if there are any codes. The car has just over 50k miles on it. Is this just a service advisory light?

I will put the scanner on it in just a couple of days, maybe tomorrow, but I was wondering how to reset this light. Do I put the scanner on it and reset any fault codes and address the problem or is there a way to just simply reset it? the car is running great, although it is down on gas mileage a bit.

This site has been a HUGE help in the past )P0607 code) and I look forward to any and all help it may offer up. Thanks all for the help.

There's a few discussions earlier on this forum. For one, see:
1997 corolla check engine light reset

and it's related links.
I assume that you know how to rest after oil changes (turn on engine while pressing in odometer 'reset' pin).
