2005 Corolla Check Engine Light
My Corolla has 48K on it and the cel comes on in very cold weather (near zero) about every 10 days to 2 weeks. It doesn't seem to come on in warmer weather. I've been told about the smoke leak test at the dealer and have looked on some forums. Does anyone know how to test the system w/out having a dealer run the smoke test? I've seen where the smoke test is low pressure( approx 1 lb). Also, it sounds like that the charcoal cansister can fail relatively easily. The first few times that the light came on, I thought, was hoping, that the gas cap was loose. But it has since come on when the gas cap was for sure on properly. I've seen threads that state not to waste your money on a new gas cap. Is there a way to test the gas cap? The car seems to run fine with the cel on or off. I haven't seen any difference in the gas mileage.
