Default Corolla S

Does anyone own or has anyone driven a Corolla S? I like the looks of them and the mileage sounds great.Wondering how the power is. I think they have a 130 horse DOHC 16V 4. Presheate any feedback.

I taught my cousin how to drive on his 5 speed Corolla S. The car was a ton of fun. It was peppy, but not fast. I'd like to have one for a daily driver, but they are a little too pricey for my 2nd car budget.

My son has a 99 corolla (no 'S') with 120 hp. Nice little car with good pick up and great gas mileage.

I think a Corolla S (now XRS?) runs $22-24,000 depending on options. A base Corolla runs about $14K. The extra 10 hp isn't worth $8-10K in my opinion.

A base '04 Camry goes for $16K with 154 hp 4 cylinder engine - a much better investment???

On 05 year models. The S and the XRS are 2 seperate trims. The S has the regular 1.8L 130hp/125lbtq and comes with an 4spd auto or 5spd manual and the XRS has the same 1.8L 170hp/127lbtq 6spd manual from the celica GTS but detuned. In all the corolla has a CE, LE, S and XRS. The XRS is the only one with the 170hp 6spd manual.

I have a 2004 Toyota Corolla S. It is fun to drive and it is fun to drive.

They get excellent gass millage and I fill it up every two weeks and it only $20. If you have any questions about the corolla S or the XRS version you can try www.ncfour.com www.9thgencorolla.com they will help you answer some questions.

let me help here.
first time reader, first time posting. LOL
ANyway the truth is that the s with an automatic is a bit sluggish. The fact that thee engine revs high redeeems the slugishness.
My favorite is the 5 speed. 1st gear is geared very well, probably wind to 20 mph , 2nd is awesome, runs to 63 MPH, 3rd is by far the best, runs up near 90 MPH and pulls hard and smooth to the rev limiter. After that,4th and 5th are perfect for maximized fuel mileage. At 75 mph, the engine turns about 3000 RPMs. ( 41 MPG/HWY vs the 38 with the auto) So it is definately fun to drive.The suspension is beautiful at smoothing out a rough road. It leaves a lil to be desired in high speed/tight cornering. Perhaps some upgraded tires would help the corners. The roomines of the cabin is great for anyone under 6 feet talll.
A corolla S with manual trans, power moonroof, cruise, rear spoiler, cruise,15inch alloy wheels will sticker at $17,100 The only up grades would be 6 disk indash changer, anti-lock breaks, and leather**if its even available on an S.
The Xrs is MUCH MORE than a trim level, it adds the vvtL-i, 6speed, ABS, EBD, fromt AND rear strut tower braces, and 15' alloy wheels, OH! By the way!! thats all standard.**Some trim level huh? All of that equipment is available UNDER $20K. If anyone knows of a $24K xrs, please post a link.
An XRS Matrix doesnt cost $24k lol
THe bottom line is that like all Toyotas, its a whole lot of bang for the money!
