We just purchased a '05 Corolla S last Saturday. Wifes new ride. Our first brand new car. Cute little bugger. I know there is another one or two of you that own these cars (can't remember usernames...). I will be posting a pic after I sumbit this. It is the dark blue color. Any owners let us know how you like it. Getting good gas milage 9close to whats listed on sticker)? Any probs.? I have been to a couple of different site for Corollas but I figured we could get some threads going for them here since we have paid for it anyway (cars/trucks and the site... ).....

I have been keeping an eye on the corolla for a month or so now. I looked up a few corolla forums. I couldn't find any decent forums. I'm curious to know what your fuel economy will be.

The forums that I was on (I think one was called 9thgencorolla) was more for the younger hip crowd that uses the cars for "tuners" (I think that is the right term ). I am also just confy here a TS and like that it is more "adult" oriented. I like doing some mods here and there but I definatly wont be racing the corolla (130hp.. ) anytime soon. I work four 10's at the 'ol shop and now that we have the Corolla, I will take it to work at least twice a week to save on the Tundras gas. Soon I will start keeping track of the MPG's and report back.
Hey Frank, does Mary know you are planning to HER new car to work? If she doesn’t….I’m gonna tell!
Don’t be knocking that Corolla engine Warrior. That’s basically the same engine I have and it screams!
Yup. She knows. Trust me when I say that I pay for it dearly too.... I should know more the end of this week (actual #'s) but we are saving at least a little $$ just by me using it and not driving the Tundra everyday now. As far as speed, why does yours go so much faster than the Corolla? Weight the main thing? I noticed the Spyder only has 8HP more than the Corolla and they are both th 1.8 Lt engine? Has to be weight eh (mainly)? Gotta say, wish the Corolla had more leg room up front (I m 6'3" and a tad cramped when driving). Other than that, I really like driving it.
Horsepower to weight ratio is the main key. The Spyder only weighs 2195lbs. Gearing is another factor that would probably come into play here. The last remaining factor is the weight of my right foot.

Hey Andy
It's when the iron in your blood turns to lead in your a--!!That makes your right foot heavy~~

Now that makes sense. I always did enjoy a good, old fashioned, scientific explanation to things.
Thanks Bob
Hey Ace, do they only make the MR2 Spyder or do they still make the "good 'ol" MR2 as well? I noticed that there is no "MR2" forum and I can't say that I have seen one (except for yours) on the road or at the dealers...? Hmmmmm
Toyota stopped production of the MR2 in the mid 90’s and introduced the MR2 Spyder in 2000. Sales have been poor, thus the cancellation of the MR2 Spyder.
Last year they only produced 3000 and this year, 2005, they only put out 1,500. Production stopped in January, 2005. That’s one of the biggest reasons I bought the MR2 Spyder as opposed to Honda’s S2000 or Mazda’s Miata, you very rarely ever see an MR2 Spyder.
I did find a pretty good web site for the Spyder called Spyderchat.com. It actually reminds me a lot of TS in it’s format and seems to be overloaded with information, just like TS.

Just noticed last night in the work classifieds that a guy has a 2000 or 2001 MR2 Spyder for $14K (and some change). Haven't seen what they go for new but that sonds like it has held it's value real well. Too bad sales are poor as I liked the older and the newer versions. Oh well, at least Pontiac isn't still producing the "Fiero" anymore.....or are they
My daughter bought a new 96 Carolla. She put 160K on the 4 cyl and if memory serves, she got in the mid 30s on the highway. Sold it for almost 1/3 of the new price after putting 160K on it. She now drives a 4 cyl Camery. Only problem she had was cracked exhaust manifolds. She replaced it twice.--Buzz

Sounds like a decent price to me, especially if it’s clean. Pontiac stopped making the Fiero in the late 80’s or so. So they had a few oil fires, big deal. It was another Ralph Nader/Corvair kind of thing. Actually, I had an ’84 Fiero and very much liked it. It was a fun car but alas, children came along and little, sporty cars went bye, bye. Hot damn, the kids are gone and I’m back!

Why is it that Toyota seems to have so many problems with the exhaust manifolds cracking? Is this a common problem with all cars these days or is it just Toyota?

Just kidding Ace. I just thought the Fiero was A_S Ugly. When the original MR2's came out I was much happier with thier styling. I knew a guy (met him at our apartment complex) in 91 or 92 who owned a Fiero. It sat there the whole time we lived at the apartments because it had issues (can't remember what was wrong) and he didn't have a lot of $$ to get it running again. Before we moved, he had just sold it to a junkyard. I have been lucky and learned a lesson fron my 'ol man about cars. None are perfect (yes, even Toyota) but track records prove alot. I do have to say (keeping with the Corolla topic------) I really wouldn't have been as happy with our Corolla purchase if Toy didn't have the "S" version. The "regular" Corolla just isn't as appealing. They did a ghreat job when they added the little "extras" to spruce it up into the "Sport" version. Much more appealing that way (in my opinion).
