Default Timing belt change??

I recently purchased an 02 Corolla LE for my daughter and before I turn it over to her, I want to be sure it's in tip-top shape...since she lives out of state with her mom and I won't be readily available to take care of things. The car has 87K miles on it. I have looked through the "Scheduled Maintenance Guide" and am surprised to find no mention of needing to change the timing belt. I plan to change all of the fluids over to Mobile 1 Synthetic, change the filters and do a very close inspection of all of the fittings, hoses, belts, etc. Anything else someone can think of that I should do would be great. What's your opinion on the timing belt issue??
Craig

Just found out that it has a timing chain and therefore does not need to be replaced...lucky for me.
A friend also said that at 87k miles, he recommended not going to pure synthetic oil/fluids, but if I wanted to switch, go to a blend. He says that they don't recommend switching at high miles because you may have problems with seals leaking with synthetic where the did not leak with conventional oil...I guess due to the water-like nature of synthetic vs. the heavier nature of regular oil. Any thoughts?

Your buddy might be right about the syntetic oil, but i would not consider 87k mile as high milage..............maybe 187K is high milage.

A mechanic I trust told me if I had a vehicle getting close to 100k and wanted to use syn --to go to a Blend first. Do that for several changes. If it leaked ---go back to dino--if it didnt leak go to the full syn.----Buzz
