Corolla MatrixGeneral discussion forum for the Toyota Corolla and Toyota Matrix.
This is a discussion thread titled "Factory Fogs on '06 are easy", within the Corolla Matrix forum, part of the Cars & Vans Forums category.
In a word, NO.
The relay they supply with these kits is an inline type.
As you might have seen in a previous post in this thread, it was explained that what you need is the factory type "Plug-In" style relay that goes in the fuse box, located in the engine compartment.
These kits that are offered on ebay are for Corollas that don't come with the factory wiring harness.
If yours does, it should have the 9006 plugs tied up along side the radiator surround.
If you get underneath the front end and reach up on either side, you should feel these there.
I could not see them from the top.
You also will need to acquire a turn signal switch with the extra option of the foglight switch.
This will make the installation the same as factory.
Ok gang, here it is, the news quite a few of you have been waiting for.
If you want to install factory fogs on your '06, and maybe all 9th gen Corollas', here is all you need.
Two lamp assembly's (one right - one left ), a turn signal/headlights/foglights switch, and the fog light relay for the fuse box under the hood.
The factory already installed all the wiring, and most likely the fuse too, for you, so that part of the job is done.
Install your lights carefully so that they are secure, open the hood and pop open the fuse box. Push your relay into it's socket, and close the box.
Drop the hood.
Remove the three screws that secure the two steering column shrouds, (one upper, one lower) then disconnect the plug from the turnsignal switch.
Now depress the plastic locking clip and slide the switch up.
Push the new switch down until it locks in place, and reconnect the plug for the wiring harness.
Carefully replace the two shrouds fastening them with the three screws.
Start your car and turn your new lights on.
Kool, huh?
And so simple I can't believe it.
Now all you have to do is wait for it to get dark, so you can AIM them properly.
Total cost will run you about $300 if you get all the parts new. That is, if you get the lights from a vendor off ebay.
The switch can be had for $125, and the relay is about $50.
Total time to install, should be less than 20 minutes. (If you are sober.)
Hey, don't tell me I don't contribute.
You're welcome.
Wow,install sounds easy. I thnk the hard part is to aim the lights. Are theyworth the $300 cost? For that price, you can get nice set of PIAA or HELLA. I'd rather go factory though. Thanks.

SWITCH,T/SIG & HDLP & HDLP DIMR & FOG LP $36.79U.S Drop me a message I`ll give tell you how to do it..
I will ask one silly question. How do you install the fog lights. Do you remove the cover under the bumper? I have the fog lights, but I cannot figure out how to install them. I just do not want to break something!
I will appreciate any information about it.
Thanks!
Dchev
It's so easy, even your Mom could do it.
If you look on the back of the light you see that the inboard end has a white square plastic plug attached with a screw, and the ouboard end has a wide tab.
Just pop the black plastic plugs out of the front facia openings, by pushing them from the rear, and put the outboard end in first, (from the front) then push the inboard ends into position so that they line up with the square opening for that plug.
You will notice that the plug has spring like ears on it that should pop out and lock the lamp assembly in place.
DO NOT USE a 16 pound sledge hammer to help seat these fasteners !
I watched a 105 lb woman install these all by herself, and if she can do it, so can you.
BTW the outboard tab fits into it's own slot, so take care in making sure it is positioned correctly first.
I think when you get under the car, with a little extra light, and start looking at the opening, you will see that it is as simple as flicking the light switch on at home.
Toyota really did design this install to be too easy.
That's the scary part.
Hi, First Post. I'd like to say 'Thanks". Lot's of good info here.
I have bought a 06 Corolla. It has the wiring as described. Does anyone have the Toyota Part numbers. I can buy parts at a discount, but I have to get the part number first. Anyone?
Also, does the AC/Delco part sold at Roc Auto look like OEM? Or is it OEM?
Thanks, AJ
Heck my 2004 CE even came with the harness already installed with the two outputs flanking the radiator. Perhaps they must be tucked away....if this is the case, use the ebay harness and switch...
Man, I wish I would have read all of this before ordering those lights!!!!! I haven't had a chance to check under the hood yet, but knowing my luck, my 06 CE probably doesn't have them either. I'm crossing my fingers. I know everyone keeps talking about the switch, but seriously, is there any way of using the push in switch they send you with the kit.
I've install after market lights on several cars in the past. I'm half tempted to strip the sockets, and connectors off the harness, and just wire it like the countless other sets of after market lights. Wire the sockets, a ground, a hot lead from the a 12 volt source to the switch, and switched lead back to the lights. Possibly still be able to use that nifty push in switch that fits right in the dash coin holder. So, what do ya think? Could work!!!
Why waste your time?
Why make it, sort of ghetto?
If you get the relay and Toyota switch, the whole job will be “Factory”.
If the car has an electrical problem, and Toyota sees your butchered electrical job...guess who gets to pay the bill?
And when it comes time to sell your ride, all the new owner will see, is a "Factory" type installation.
Course maybe you don't really care what kind of quality the job has, or you can't afford a switch.
Too bad, but good luck anyway.
Sure hope nothing shorts out on you.
Thanks for the help Phil, I am going to get my oil changed at the dealership tomorrow. While I'm there I think I am going to check on the cost. Like the other poster above, do you have any part numbers to go along with your items that you need?
Thanks!
Go to this dealer, and tell them what you want.
They will sell you the correct part.
It will be a genuine Toyota part.
And they will not rip you off for some inflated price like most local dealers do.
I think mine cost me about $125 plus a small charge for shipping.
Trust me, in the long run you are going to sleep easier at night knowing that the parts you used are going to be covered by your warrantee should anything go wrong.
There may be a cheaper place to get this part. Like the junk yard.
But I wanted only brand new Toyota parts in my brand new Corolla.
And remember, this ain't toilet paper you're buying here.
That switch will last the life of the car.
Phil, You sure have supplied a lot of good information. I'm looking to install fog lights on my 07 LE. Is it possible that Toyota connected the 9006 plugs to connections on either side of the radiator to 2 black objects about 1/2" x 2" x 2". Also, I looked in the fuse box behind my battery and from what I can see there are no connectors located in the slot where the relay is supposed to plug into.
I don't know what to tell you.
Are you sure you are looking at the right spot for the relay socket?
It should be at the end closest to the firewall.
If you look at the inside of the cover, it shows which socket the relay is.
Is the 15 amp fuse in place?
Do you know what a 9006 plug looks like?
If you don't, then pull one of the low beam plugs off. It looks just like that.
The plugs are tied up along side the radiator support.
You probably can't see them, so you will have to reach up there from underneath and feel for them.
Up-date: Per Toyota "Fog lights are not an option for the CE and LE models". This could be why the wire harness and relay connectors are not installed for the fog lights!
